The psychiatrists I have known have mostly been concerned with controlling mood through drugs. After they have prescribed your pills, then they refer you to a psychologist for counseling.

Psychiatrist = MD who prescribes drugs.

Psychologist = PhD who does traditional counseling.

I understand the distinction, but a pyschiatrist has to know how it all works before they can prescribe, or put a patient further up the system.

So how come a pill-pusher is a major?
