An Army psychiatrist set to be shipped overseas opened fire at the Fort Hood Army post Thursday, authorities said, a rampage that killed 12 people and left 31 wounded in the worst mass shooting ever at a military base in the United States.
The gunman, first said to have been killed, was wounded but alive in a hospital under military guard, said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood. He was shot four times, and was on a ventilator and unconscious, according to military officials. "I would say his death is not imminent," Cone said.
The man was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a 39-year-old from Virginia.
President Barack Obama called the shooting at the Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening, "a horrific outburst of violence."
"It's difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas," the commander in chief said. "It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American soil."
Soldiers rushed to treat their injured colleagues by ripping their uniforms into makeshift bandages. Officials have not ruled out the possibility that some casualties may have been victims of "friendly fire," shot by authorities amid the mayhem and confusion at the scene, said a senior U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss matters that were under investigation.
Hasan had transferred to Fort Hood in July from Walter Reed Medical Center, where he received a poor performance evaluation, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

Why do we not hear about the other two who were arrested? What happened to them?
Questioned and released, from what I understand.
I think they were released. But then I heard they took in one more. Don’t know where that went.
He’s unconscious, on a ventilator?
I know something that’ll help him make a full recovery.
Do the “Bacon Dance” while singing the Bacon Song:
“Baconnnnnnnn.....
Moslems love baconnnnnn....
It’s their favorite thinggggg......
So here, eat this baconnnnn....”
Then you stuff his mouth full of freshly grilled juicy bacon.
I know I can't resist it once I get a whiff...
I guess he got ventilated if he’s on a ventilator.
...
I love BLT sandwiches on some sourdough bread....I am sure he could learn to like the sandwich also.

Well,,,That’s sorta good news,,,
I gotta wonder why the General Lied!!!,,,
The CID was with the moozzi the whole time,,,
He couldn’t fart without the Gen. knowing about it!!!...
Your post is a reminder to me that American Spec is a superior forum.
You can surely do better than that.
I guess it’s a “gun free zone”?? No more. Israeli soldiers are in deep shit if they’re caught WITHOUT a loaded gun at all time. We have to realize, this is frickin war, there is no “safe” zone anymore. If a bunch of soldiers can be gunned down, on a military base, with no recourse available to them, we are indeed in bigger trouble than we thought.
I have a very long O Katana that I would love to apply
to Maj. Hasan
And your post reminds us that you are a Troll with no hope for improving.

Maybe you should go home...
“You can surely do better than that.”
We surely can, you surely can’t. Turn tail and run.
Are there any guns allowed on Military bases?
This one guy wouldn’t have got this far at my house.
Has the DNC WH and congress melted all the guns?
How does this contention that this was a “gun-free zone” square with the statement that some of the casualties could have been caused by “friendly fire”?
Not enough is known about this incident yet to make cheap points about gun ownership or terrorism. We still dont know the motive - he might have just been depressive.
If you live in the barracks you are required to keep your personnel firearms in the armory. You get a weapons card for it just like you do for your G.I. weapon. You are not allowed to have ammunition in your room or vehicle.
If you live in base housing you must register your weapons with the base Provost Marshall and you are supposed to keep the weapons and ammunition locked up separately.
You are not allowed a weapon in the cab of your vehicle. The exception is if you are going hunting and have a base permit to hunt.
I live in a state that allows you to keep a loaded weapon in your car. My wife is retired military and works on a military installation in a questionable part of town. I asked her to carry a weapon with her when she goes to and from work. She will not because she is not allowed to have it in her car on the installation.
Thousands of people come to work on various military installation everyday and you can bet most of them are not armed as they don't want to risk a career ending njp if they are caught with it. This creates a target rich enviorment for a terrorist. We need to change this.
As I said, the attitudes towards guns changes by location. And one last thing. The Military does not give a crap whether you have a ccw or not.
