2 handguns, 30 round magazines, crowded room. No victims armed. It is my understanding that military regularly do not carry sidearms on base unless part of their duty. Sad to say, but if he were in a shopping mall in Texas, he probably would have been shot down much faster.
Way back in 1971 I was detached from my squadron to Shore Patrol at NAS Quonset Point. We were in charge of general security and our primary weapon was a night stick even though there were nukes on base. (Of course the specific sites had their own security) The idea that some one would indisrimatly start killing people was unthinkable, even in those unstable times..
