Politics: Despite the whipping they took in Tuesday's election, congressional Democrats are moving fast on cap-and-trade and health care. Are they politically tone-deaf, or is this some kind of desperate strategy?
Our guess is that Democratic leaders, having gotten a very negative message from the off-year balloting, are moving as fast as they can to pass the main big-spending items on their unpopular agenda. If they don't act now, the know their radical agenda is dead.
On Thursday, Senate Democrats hustled the cap-and-trade bill out of committee without so much as a hello-and-howdy to the Republicans knowing full well the GOPers would oppose it.
All this haste, even though global participants in the upcoming Copenhagen climate talks planned for December agree that any CO2-cutting deal is probably a year away.
Meanwhile, Democratic leaders in the House want a Saturday showdown for their $1.2 trillion health care takeover after trumpeting support from the AARP and American Medical Association.
As the publication The Hill noted, Democratic leaders are still scrambling to "placate party factions threatening to defeat the health care bill over hot-button issues such as spending, immigration and abortion." They need 218 votes in the House, and they don't seem to have them.

Max Baucus voted against it. It is dead.
We can only hope the Pelosi house of cards is falling down all around them this week.
This can be done NOW. It would make it IMPOSSIBLE for the Feds to force unconstitutional laws upon the states.
Just have two or three states pass a “Usurper Protection Act” which basically requires that anyone who is sworn in as President must have a copy of his long form birth certificate on file with that state BEFORE that state recognizes his authority as President to affect the citizens of that state. If the President is a “legal” President, there should be no problem complying with this. If there is a legal problem with the President (possible Usurper), then at least that state’s residents don’t have to be harmed or affected by any illegal legislation or executive orders he might issue.
The twentieth amendment, section three requires that a President elect successfully “qualify” to Congress before being allowed to assume office. If Congress fails to do it’s duty , then the states, with a law such as this can protect themselves. Since this law would basically be ENFORCING a provision in the Constitution, I don’t see how it could be ruled unconstitutional in a court challenge. The best part of this approach is that it can be NOW by any state that wishes to do so on behalf of protecting it’s citizens against illegal, unconstitutional Federal dictates.
Pass this and have it apply to the very next issuance of executive orders or signed legislation. Put the legal onus on THEM for a change.
On Thursday, Senate Democrats hustled the cap-and-trade bill out of committee without so much as a hello-and-howdy to the Republicans knowing full well the GOPers would oppose it.
the Republicans were shut out of the hearing and writing of the stimulus bill, they were totally shut out of any input into the health bill - and hearings were held behind closed doors - LOCKED doors@ with new locks to keep republicans from being able to be present - yet Rahm Emanual was! - and on and on.
I realize they "won" and the the majority party has more say - but ALL say? Is it legal to totally shut one party out?
I this not a COUP - that none dare call so?
It needs to be dead
It’s a Senate rule. Enforcement is up to the Senate...
They’re not “politically tone deaf”. They see the writing on the wall and realize that their window for cramming this leftist crap through congress is closing quickly. Fight it every day, in every way.
“has”* (I’m tired)
Which one, health care or cap and trade?
And no one battered the door down?
It will be difficult i know, but there is nothing here that will pass that cannot be undone by a future conservative congress and adminstration.
I would like to concentrate on those items that, once enacted, cannot be undone such as
1. making 22 million illegals into Americans
2. making DC or Puetro Rico a state.
3. A terrorist nuclear detonation in a major US city

I got a survey about healthcare from my rep. & I was very P/O’d by the last question:
“What should be the most important goal in reforming our nations health system?
Making private insurance more affordable for Americans, including the 47 million uninsured individuals.
Making care more efficient by reducing waste and unnecessary treatments and controlling out of control health care inflation
Shoring up the finances of Medicare and Medicaid
Creating a public option to compete with private insurance.
Undecided”
I did not like any of the answers, and I was NOT undecided, but it would not allow me to submit the form, and my comments, unless I answered this. Of course, I didn’t submit the survey.
But leave it to a Dem politician to trick you.
