You never heard it because they never admitted it. He used ismail axe as his trademark. (Look it up if you don’t know what it refers to.) He made a martyr video stoned out of his mind. His head was shaved. His forehead was clearly marked. One pic shows him leaving in a van looking happy and normal. (Yet they said he spoke with NO ONE and had NO friends.) The next picture shows him coming back, same van, stoned, head shaved, marked. Where the heck else would you find someone doing that?
The center was doing further construction at the time. His roomate said the video he made could not have been made in their dorm room because he was there sleeping. Amazingly and oh, so coincidentally, the walls in the center were EXACTLY the same as Cho’s dorm room right down to the eggshell color.

PS, Al Qaeda claimed responsibility the same day, but no one followed up. In fact, they did everything in their power to cover it up. They also claimed ignorance of the meaning of Ismail Axe which was written in red, as though it was blood, and actually might have been, on his arm.
