I’ll go out on a limb and say he most likely has a secret security clearance. Investigations are every 10 years.
As an officer (even as an MD), he would most likely have at a minimum a SECRET security clearance. Unless things have changed drastically in the last 14 years (I retired in 95), you had to be able to have a SECRET clearance in order to be commissioned.
