Victory on Question One - [Maine preserves marriage]

The Record

The Christian Civic League of Maine has issued the following press release  on the success of the People's Veto of the same sex marriage law. The League thanks its faithful friends and supporters for all they have done to protect marriage  and the families of Maine.

The Christian Civic League of Maine welcomes the news of the win on Question 1. Shortly before the election, the League predicted that homosexual marriage would eventually be decisively and finally defeated. The League saw that the common sense of the people, combined with the Biblical truth about homosexuality would win out over any cynical manipulation of the political process.

The pro-homosexual marriage forces were defeated despite their enormous advantage in spending and the support of a compliant media. Nor did a last minute appeal by the Governor and the Attorney General succeed in swaying voters.

There will be much post-election analysis of why the vote went in favor of traditional marriage. The No on 1 side will say their defeat was a result of bigotry and discrimination. The YES on 1 side will say their victory was the result of a skillful campaign. The unstated and very obvious truth is that the greatest disadvantage of the No on 1 side was the appalling absurdity of homosexual "marriage."  There was simply no effective way of marketing such an obviously bad product to the people of Maine.

Supporters of traditional marriage are now feeling a mixture of joy and relief, the kind of elation one feels after a narrow escape from disaster. For many, this is a welcome feeling after years of hard work and sacrifice.

The League reminds the people of Maine that our society is not out of danger yet. One factor in the election victory was the glaring double standard employed by the pro-gay marriage side.  Even as homosexual rights activists appealed to the public for tolerance, they were working to deprive Donald Mendel, a guidance counselor who spoke in favor of traditional marriage, of his right to earn a living. Despite the victory on Question 1, this intimidation is sure to intensify.

Victory over the radical homosexual agenda does not consist in a temporary rejection of the concept of homosexual marriage. It means faithfulness to God's laws pertaining to marriage and the family, and a return to the Biblical truth about homosexuality. Victory will only be realized when the public returns to an awareness that homosexuality is a sin.

The Christian Civic League of Maine pledges to continue to work towards this end, and to remain faithful to its century-long mission of being a moral force in Maine.

The wackos will whine wail and sue to get their way. Also they have the “hate crime” bill that will help them put normal people in jail for expressing normal thoughts.

The courts are going to have to overturn this one right away, can’t be letting the control of laws escape to the people. Who knows how much mischief this might bring to the oligarchy that is entrenched in the state houses and Congress.
