Left Lashes Out at ‘V’, Obama-Friendly ABC Purges Showrunner
BigHollywood.com ^ | November 5, 2009 | by James Hudnall

Last night a brave and insightful documentary was aired that accurately portrayed the wave of ObamaMania that swept the nation. It was called “V” and aired on ABC to mostly rave reviews and tremendous ratings.

There was another documentary about the Obama campaign on HBO, but that left out a lot of relevant facts, so spaceships and lizard-people aside, ABC wins the veracity award.

The parable is, an attractive group of aliens show up, out of the blue, and offer universal health care, advanced technology and world peace in exchange for our trust and devotion. All we have to do is believe everything they say without question. Which means, don’t ask anything about their hidden motives or past associations because that would be racist impolite. In fact, one reporter who is offered an exclusive interview with their leader is admonished not to say anything negative or they would be denied access (Hi, Fox!).

SNIP

This is not just a right-wing worldview but the worldview of the paranoid Tea Party movement. I’m really not sure how this made it onto network television. Maybe the calculation is that Glenn Beck will start urging his viewers to watch and a ratings bonanza will ensue. (I don’t expect scientists will be the scapegoats in the new series, as the original “V” alien campaign to tar scientists as a fifth column sits uncomfortably close to the current right-wing view that the world’s leading scientific organizations are conspiring to suppress evidence that global warming is a hoax.)

Naturally, when a show debuts to huge ratings and mostly great reviews, the producer’s career is golden. Not this time.

SNIP

One thing’s certain, I doubt the “V” would find too many people in this administration very appetizing.

Last I read, they will run 2 episodes this fall and delay the remaining episodes (2 or ?) until the spring. [And they wonder why people lose interest in TV programs.]

And here, silly me, me thinking that ABC was a business, their aim for honest profit would override their doctrinaire communist inclinations.

I should know better; they can always be bailed out by the totalitarians.

Another potentially great series down the drain. If it's not the gays, it's the political neanderthals.

Their spin: They weren’t sure the new series would be successful enough to warrant 11 episodes.

Well, lucky for us, they can't "unring" that bell; and perhaps we might see episode two, unedited for political capital.

It is more important than ever now to make sure I make a permanent DVD of that first episode. All the more reason to regret that, unlike most series, the premiere episode was not two hours long.

If they fiddle with the direction in which it started, it will sink like the proverbial large rock.

Thank you so much for that link. I have never read this book, but after a taste of it, I will be reading it tonight. I was particularly pleased to see the following, early on...

""You've been telling us about how to secure peace, but come on, now, General-- just among us Rotarians and Rotary Anns--'fess up! With your great experience, don't you honest, cross-your-heart, think that perhaps--just maybe--when a country has gone money-mad, like all our labor unions and workmen, with their propaganda to hoist income taxes, so that the thrifty and industrious have to pay for the shiftless ne'er-do-wells, then maybe, to save their lazy souls and get some iron into them, a war might be a good thing? Come on, now, tell your real middle name, Mong General!"

Gotta love it! The more things change...

"The NEA is winning the 'dumbing down' and propaganda war...'

Yes, but, they've (NEA) great job security. Huh.
Faustian deals abound, my friend. 'Tis the season.

"...Bush/Kennedy merely added gasoline to the fire."

Given what they surely had to have known, the resources, advice etc? While adding gasoline, might've been "par for the course", too. I mean if one only judged by the result(s)? Just sayin'. LOL

"Speaking of nightmares, I had 2 last night. (Musta been because I had vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup right before bedtime."

Ohhhhhh, nooooooo.
I could've warned ya about that.
What're friends for? LOL

Caffeine & an aging physiology are a nasty, merciless combo young man. LOL!!!

They bumped the show locally on Election Night, but for a local sports show. They didn't run until overnight. Morena is a hottie (yes, better with longer hair), but equally stunning was that Blonde Canadian doll who caught my eye in the non-stop ads during my ABC soaps (and I'm not usually the biggest fan of Blondes), who played the alien "tour guide" tempting the teen boy, Laura Vandervoort... oh... my... goodness... is this an angel face or what ?

Even before the pilot aired this week, the network ordered a halt in production after only 4 episodes were done

IIRC, the plan was always to have a 4-episode "appetite whetter" during sweeps month (November), then have it as a mid-season replacement for some of the dreck they show out there.

For a while, I was even thinking that they were gonna try tying "V" to "Flash Forward", but I guess not.

If I’m not mistaken, the actress in that pic is Laura Vandervoort. She is quite stunning. She’s also a black belt in Karate.

Here is her official site:

I did identify her. :-P I know, because when I saw her in the previews, I went nuts trying to find her name...

Perhaps. The stories have changed so much who knows?

However, there is a big difference between a simple "appetite whetter" hiatus, and both firing the creative director AND ordering a "retooling" of the remaining episodes before even airing the pilot. The "resistance" some folks have to connecting the dots is pretty amazing... /g

If I remember correctly, in the original series, the aliens melted like slugs in saltwater

I believe that was "Alien Nation"

Why “V” is not racist - except for being pro-human
By Tamara Wilhite

• “V” is about an alien race; Obama is (probably) a member of the human race
• The resistance in “V” is slaughtered by the aliens. Obama isn’t killing his critics yet.
• Aliens in “V” offer universal health care to both control and cure us so they can eat more of us later; Obama only offers universal health care to control us.
• The health care of the aliens in “V” actually cure injuries and illness of the sickest. Obama’s universal healthcare is a denial of care to the sickest.
• Alien health care is free. Obama’s is free, but the tax rate will kill you if the waiting lists don’t.
• The aliens want to mine minerals and harvest water. Obama thinks the Earth should be unsullied and turning off water to save fish is more important than dying crops and unemployed farmers.
• The main interviewer in “V” was surprised when told to only ask softball questions. Mainstream media interviewers volunteer.
• The interviewer in “V” believed in the principal of fairness. In real life, the reporter wouldn’t have.
• The fascists in “V” are planning on world domination. Obama only wants to dominate one nation.
• The aliens in “V” have infiltrated major religious groups and seek to guide them to their views. In real life, religious groups not already at the altar are second class citizens if not “bigoted” and “hateful”.
• The fascist aliens in “V” are beautiful and friendly. Except for Sasha and Malia, there are neither such people in the US Wanna-Be Dictatorship.
• The fascist aliens in “V” have simple titles like “leader”. Obama’s regime picks more negative words like “czar”.
• The fascist aliens have infiltrated our democracy but want to continue the façade of freedom. In real life, judges publicly overthrow and then chastise those who vote against the political elite.
• The fascists in “V” actually like babies. Sautéed or raw, but like them. Is this better than being a burden?
• The fascists in “V” have a better slogan, though they are just as hypocritical.
• The scripts for “V” were written during the Bush Presidency, but carry the classic elements of fascism through the story. Thus it was intended to call the Republicans, not the Democrats fascists. But if the shoe fits …
