Shannon Valentine has conceded the election for the 23rd house district to Dr. Scott Garrett. Chair of the Lynchburg Democrat party, John Lawrence, said Wednesday afternoon that Valentine will not seek a recount. Stay with ABC 13 for the latest on this.

This was the race where Liberty University made the difference. Valentine was leading all night long by about 1,400 votes. The only precinct that had to report was the LU precinct. It went 85% for the Republican and gave him a 1700 vote margin. It was enough to put the Republican over the top by 210 votes.

Good for Liberty U! There was an earlier thread or post explaining that Liberty U was closing classes on election day so the students were to be sure to vote. Nice to know it made a difference in such a meaningful way. Now, class — write that up, turn it in, and receive your extra credit.
