I wonder if the ferocity with which gay marriage proponents attack their detractors was also a factor. People who stand up for traditional marriage are demonized and threatened in all sorts of manner by gay marriage proponents. I would imagine that sort of thing really turns a lot of people off to a cause, even if they are on the fence about it.

Will we see a repeat of the harassment of donors like we saw after Prop 8 went down in California? The pro-gay-marriage activists got ahold of the donation records and were going after people for months afterwards. Probably still are...
