Republican Bob McDonnell easily won the Virginia governors race last night just a year after the state went overwhelmingly for President Obama and the Democrats.
Unofficial results showed the former state attorney general defeated his Democratic opponent Creigh Deeds. The state had a Republican governor for the past eight years.
The Virginia race and the contest for governor of New Jersey are viewed as the first referendum on Mr Obama and the Democratic Congress before the 2010 mid-term elections.
A year ago, Mr Obama became the first Democrat in 44 years to carry Virginia in a presidential race. This time voters expressed concern about major Obama initiatives such as health care, energy and stimulus spending.
Mr Obamas political influence was on the line in two state gubernatorial elections that could serve as warning signs for Democrats about Americas mood heading into the 2010 congressional elections.
Interviews with voters leaving polling stations in Virginia showed that independents broke heavily for the Republican contestant.
The outcomes of the two races were bound to feed discussion about the state of the electorate, the status of the diverse coalition that sent Obama to the White House and the limits of the Presidents influence on the partys base of support.

ACORN blow I would say or hope to say! They’ve been handcuffed and now we see the true or as close as true results. Lets keep all the organizing groups out.......
I dunno... I’ll bet $100 that little Rahm has been giving Obama some blows now and again.
Poll Blow? Is that anything like Colon blow?
Gee, Obama is running ahead of Clinton, a/k/a, the first black president. I think it took Clinton about six years to have a blow reported in the press.
I believe Clinton suffered from one of those as well.

When he didn't walk on water or heal the sick...
people started catching on to the con game.
Particularly when the jobs failed to materialize.
Still, they can save the Catwoman costume for Halloween next year.
