Democrats Caught Making Robocalls for 'Independent' Daggett
National Review ^ | Monday, November 02, 2009 | Jim Geraghty

This news breaks too late to make much of a difference, but it simply confirms what many have long suspected: that the Democrats have so much of a vested interest in independent Christopher Daggett splitting the anti-incumbent vote that they are putting resources into promoting him.

The Democratic State Committee now admits paying for a robocall to Somerset County voters that slams Republican Chris Christie and promotes independent gubernatorial candidate Christopher Daggett.

A Democratic spokeswoman says the party’s chairman, Joe Cryan, was not aware of the robocalls when he denied that the state committee had anything to do with them yesterday afternoon.

Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Chris Daggett's insistence that he isn't in this race to protect Corzine are kind of moot, now; whether or not he sees his role as protecting the incumbent, Democrats (and fairly presumably, Corzine himself) see his role in this race as splitting the opposition and ensuring another four years of Corzine.

Their candidate is such a loser that their strategy is to promote a 3rd party candidate in an attempt to split the anti-vote? (ie. the vote against their candidate)

Why don't they just run up a white flag - the 'rats are good at that internationally.

Daggett is a career bureaucrat. He has been an environmental regulator for years working in various state and federal positions - and yes under Corzine as well.

Not unusual and something that both parties do in order to split a vote in a three way race.

"Not unusual and something that both parties do in order to split a vote in a three way race."

But if it isn't immoral, illegal, or unethical, why would Democrats be in favor of it?
