Simple and sweet.
More often than not—they are babysitting kids, refuse to enforce rules and demand discipline, and trying to be a ‘free’ healthcare clinic...
You didn't get the flu from the shot.
The symptoms that I have are included in the possible side-effects from the vaccine. Whether it's coincidence or not I can't say.
Troy was waiting for advice from her family doctor on whether Nikiyah should get the shot since she takes medicine to control her epilepsy.
What she intended to do or actually would have done cannot be determined. In any case, no one was given permission by the parent to inject their daughter with goo.
I don't care if the children they gave the shot to illegally(and it is illegal)had reactions or not, I would sue for violation of my, and my child's, civil rights.
They get plenty of FED at home.
In this case I wouldn't blame the family for going for the gold. I'd have my kid's college education paid for, giving her a shot without my permission in a non-emergency situation.

H1N1 flumist disaster!
by pedinurse05
Nov 01, 2009 03:12 PM - Hello everyone,
I posted on this topic before but just want our experience to be shared. My 2 daughters were both vaccinated using the live flumist. The next day the youngest developed a high fever and sore throat. This continued over the next few days but she also became achy with a bad cough and wheezing in the lungs. I took her to the pediatrician 3 days after the vaccination where she took nasal samples to be checked for H1N1. Her examination was consistent with H1N1 and especially with the proximity of the vaccination. She and I both feel she got the the flu from the flumist. Even though the printed material says you cant get it from the vaccinationmy doctor confirmed you can and may pass it on to immunocompromised people. It is rare to have this happen though. Being a pediatric nurse myself, I am typically for an ounce of prevention HOWEVER I have definitely second guessed this H1N1 flumist! My daughter is currently on 2 antibiotics, tamiflu, and albuterol. With that said, I certainly would take this (even though it is terrible) over the full strength virus...but ultimately i think the killed virus injection is safest. This is mild in some but I can see where it is definitely a deadly virus to othersespecially the children.
Just a side notemy kids are home schooled and we had been in no contact with anyone sick in the past month. I am on leave of absence and did not bring anything home from work. This is why we are so suspicious of the flumistnext day 24 hours later flu symptoms set into full swing. My oldest daughter had no problems. My post is just to raise awareness and inform others of our experience. Yes, I wish I had waited and used the injectionbut I still would have vaccinated. This experience only has shown me how serious this isand Im still pro-vaccination just not pro flumist:)
Take care everyone and lets hope this passes soon!

Black, White, or Yellow, this is unacceptable! No permission, no shot! SUE!
Just think all the people who get the flu from the inoculation can also spread the flu.
I got the shot which is the inactive version. The mist contains the live version.
I don’t think there is alot of data on the flu mist vaccine yet.
Of course they shouldn’t have given it to her, but try to remember that this is a hard core urban school where school officials are stuck trying to deal with a huge number of kids of whose parents are dysfunctional and totally abdicating responsibility for their children (including hordes of kids whose parents are illegal aliens). They don’t have unlimited resources and mistakes happen. The girl was not harmed, and in all likelihood her mother would have given approval for the vaccination in a day or two when the doctor got back to her.
The number of kids in the NYC public school system who don’t get fed at home is so high that several years ago, the city gave up trying to track who was eligible for the free breakfast program based on family income, and simply made it available to all students at all schools. There are a huge number of kids whose parents can’t be bothered to even fill out the forms that would get their kids breakfast, and it was simply cheaper to give everybody free breakfast, than to hire an army of administrators to try to track down the parents and threaten them with a visit from child welfare services if they didn’t fill out the d*mn form.
I guarantee you this kid is on taxpayer-funded healthcare (and almost certainly the mother too). Frankly, if the mother is not paying for her daughter’s medical insurance/care, there’s no reason she should have a say in it. If this kid comes down with the flu, the taxpayers will be socked with the bill for her care, so the issue of whether she gets vaccinated is a government issue, not a parental issue.
I don’t know, but since child deaths from the flu are at about 120 so far this year, I’m sure if the vaccine was anywhere near as bad, we’d have heard about it.
This child is getting taxpayer-funded schooling, almost certainly taxpayer-funded breakfast and lunch, and taxpayer-funded medical care, and quite likely taxpayer-susbidized housing too. Until I see some evidence that the mother is actually paying for the child's upkeep, I see no reason why decisions about the child's medical care shouldn't be made by the government.
Government-shrinking is ENDING all these welfare programs (including public schools), and taking children away from parents who refuse to support them. It's not continuing to force the taxpayers to shell out huge sums for the upkeep of kids born to people with no means or intention to support them, and then insisting that how the money is spent should be entirely up to the parents.
I hope the little girl will be ok but I’m not buying the, “It’s safe for people with epilepsy” spiel, yet. Fluarix, an injectible seasonal flu vax, is not to be given to patients with neurological conditions including epilepsy and Alzheimer’s. I haven’t checked the other brands of flu vax to see what they say and I’m certainly not buying the H1N1 hype. (http://www.drugs.com/fluarix.html source: Do not receive Fluarix if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a flu vaccine, or if you have:
an active or uncontrolled neurologic disorder (such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, or epilepsy);
)
I am a virologist and I have concerns with the live flumist as well. It is made from a genetically modified form of the virus that is adapted to replicate at temps a few degrees cooler that the wild-type virus. The cold adapted form is predicted to infect only the cells in the nose (where its a few degrees cooler than inside the body).
The vaccine is predicted to work by causing an infection that is localized in the nose. This infection triggers the immune system to produce antibodies against that strain of the virus and (in theory) protects that person from the wild-type virus.
The printed material for this vaccine is misleading. They claim that you can’t get the flu from this vaccine but infection by the virus is exactly how it is supposed to work. In the clinical trial, the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine was reported but their methods are also misleading. They tested vaccinated people by nasal swab to see if they caught the wild-type form of the virus. In other words, if someone had flu-like symptoms and the swab was positive for the vaccine strain, they did NOT consider those patients as positive for flu.
Further, the clinical work that was reported was from another strain and not the pandemic H1N1 vaccine strain. The growth of the cold adapted strain in those reports was inhibited at 36 deg C while the strain used in the H1N1 vaccine is inhibited at 39 deg C. This suggests that the live vaccine strain for H1N1 should be able to infect deeper in the body (where it is warmer) than the strains used in the clinical trials. Unbelievably, testing has not been reported for this.
You are right to question the safety of this vaccine. I have other issues with it, but I don’t want to write a book here!
thanks , I appreciate your post :)
if you want to be added to the H1N1 freeper ping list please let me know .
Smokin’ Joe I pinged your list and some other freepers to a new swine flu article . Thanks :)
