IMHO, most people think of Virginia when they hear about a city named Richmond. I didn’t even know there was a Richmond, CA until this story came out.

It’s Oakland’s ghetto, if there can be anything worse than Oakland.
At one time, Richmond, CA was home to the shipyards that built the Liberty and Victory ships that helped win WWII. After the war, the yards closed, and nothing really took their place. It’s been a cesspool ever since, my apologies to the cesspools.

I'm vert familiar with both cities:
Richmond, VA = 40% getto, 20% industrial (so-so) 40% pretty nice. State Capitol- all and all not a bad place.
Richmond, CA = 90-100% getto. No redeaming qualities. Arm pit of SF Bay Area. Makes Oakland look good. You're safer in Iraq.
