“A female manager from another store was in the store and began talking to Peter about her upcoming marriage.”

Sounds like she set him up and unfortunately he took the bait. I’ve noticed that drug addicts, alcoholics and sexual deviants do this all the time. They will nudge conversations in a certain direction with people they don’t know in an attempt to find out if that person is “one of them”.

The correct response should have been “good luck”. Now, if this person had asked his opinion and he gave it and still got fired. A civil rights law suit might be in order.

Wrong, no where under ANY law (or corporate policy) is it forbidden to respond, when pressed, with your opinion!
