NEW YORK Third party candidates could upend two major races in off-year elections Tuesday, and the success of those candidacies is a warning shot fired at both major parties by voters angry at government and disillusioned by politics as usual.
In the New Jersey governors race, independent Chris Daggett has gone from afterthought to player in a contest pitting the unpopular incumbent, Democrat Jon Corzine, against Republican Chris Christie.
In New Yorks 23rd Congressional district, where longtime Republican Rep. John McHugh stepped down to be Army secretary, prominent national Republicans have snubbed GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava, a state assemblywoman who supports abortion rights and gay marriage, in favor of Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.
Daggett is not expected to win the New Jersey contest, and the GOP split in upstate New York could throw the race to Democrat Bill Owens.
But the impact of those candidacies on the high-profile contests points to an anti-incumbent, anti-establishment sentiment that could be a prevailing theme in the 2010 congressional elections and beyond.

The RINO dropped out two or three days ago. Great up to the minute reporting here
Well, there’s a huge difference. Hoffman is a REAL alternative, put forward and supported by the base because Scozzafava is a leftist loser. Daggett is a spoiler, who is probably being paid off by Corzine to siphon votes from his real opponent.
Yeah, it’s a warning all right:
The people are waking up. And after a long yawn and a rub of the eyes, we don’t like what we see.
You guys would have been better off not overreaching and letting us continue to snooze.
And you would have been better off leaving Palin alone in obscure Alaska, where she couldn’t hurt you.
heh
Scozzafava has suspended her campaign >
“Scozzafava: race became ‘referendum on issues far from here’ “

During the day Saturday, she (Scozzafava) began to quietly and thoughtfully encourage her supporters to vote for Democrat William L. Owens.
Good point!
Love your tagline! :) Awesome!
Do doubt that Daggett is a spoiler. Let’s hope that Christie pulls it out!
Itiot, learn how to spell. “Do” should be “No”.
“And you would have been better off leaving Palin alone in obscure Alaska, where she couldnt hurt you.”
AMEN!!!
You betcha!
;)
Damn skippy its a clear message gaining momentum every single day...
These local and state elections coming up in a couple of days will be a real eye opener for many who have been doing things to help this along since 2004...Yes, I saw this coming since then...
I would like to see the Republican party correct itself, and stop putting half-a$$ed moderates up for consumption by a farther and farther leaning liberal democrat party for a change...
The NY-23 is a great example of what the Tea Party folks are wanting to have happen...And this is a great thing, and folks in office had better start paying attention, and not so much lip service to this movement...
I agree.
“...folks in office had better start paying attention, and not so much lip service to this movement...”
Are they smart enough to heed the warning? Or, more bluntly, to they want to remain employed?
You want the scary answer??? ;-)
That they don’t give a shit because they know there won’t be elections next year?
Daggett is a plant. He doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell and he has to know it. And he wants to tax the shits off our backs, just like Corzine.
Christie has a record for busting corrupt officials, and the dems are scared to death.
Ooooops !!!
‘And he wants to tax the shits off our backs, just like Corzine”
well, sorry for the typo, but he’ll tax that too.
Yes, I saw that. Dede telling her followers to vote for the Democrat. And doing so in the hearing of a left wing local rag, so they could spread the word as part of their endorsement of the Democrat.
Ohhhh, I dunno about that kemosabe...
There will certainly be an election next year...And they
(democrats) are already working it like whores on Sunset Strip...
What will happen this next Tuesday will be a precursor to what will happen in 12 months...
And I do not feel one bit sorry for the supporters of these moderate Rino’s...
People want conservatives, not party hacks (from either party) or liberals. The people are conservative at heart, especially if they own a checkbook or pay for a mortgage) and they want representatives who represent their beliefs.
Republicans are SUPPOSED to be conservatives, but they lost their compass in the Bush years. Now they’re just liberals wearing suits.
Democrats CAN be conservatives, but too many are dancing mindlessly to the Pied Pauper’s tune. Paint them all as liberals and it works.
Third party players come along and they are conservative as hell. Anybody see a parallel here?
