I got news for ya — when you go to church today, there will be more than a few people in your midst who would consider themselves Christian in some sense but who are deeply skeptical about the fundamentals of the faith — like whether God is really a personal God, whether what the Bible says is really true, etc.
Obama hasn’t made a big deal of his Christian faith because I’d say he has many of those kinds of doubts. I could be wrong, but I would guess that Obama appreciates Christianity’s role in unifying and giving strength to the black community (and other suffering communities) during tough times. And I would say he probably agrees with the notion that there is some kind of God or higher power. And for these reasons — and also for the more base political reason that most Americans like their leaders to be Christian to some degree — he has taken Christianity as his religion.
Thus he’s in kind of a grey area between agnostic and Christian. He himself may not really have the status of his faith figured out 100%. But I think that’s true of a lot of us.
I don’t see what’s so hard to understand and so enraging about all this. I just think you guys like barking at the moon.
I don't know what “church” you attend but at my church we believe in God the Almighty...and there is no “room” for agnosticism...much less anyone who “claims” to be an “agnostic Christian” which is heresy.
"but who are deeply skeptical about the fundamentals of the faith like whether God is really a personal God, whether what the Bible says is really true, etc."
Those who do not believe are NOT Christians.
"I could be wrong"...
That's the first correct statement you've made on this thread.
Now run along, and quit wasting my time with your tripe.
“whether what the Bible says is really true, etc. Obama hasnt made a big deal of his Christian faith because Id say he has many of those kinds of doubts.”
Of course, we hope Obama realizes that the many doubts can be narrowed down to a single question, and can be rendered absolutely meaningless depending on the answer to that single question.
The question is: did Jesus rise from the dead or did he not? Christianity, in its entirety, stands or falls based on the answer to this question, which is a question of history as well as theology.
So Obama’s thinking on these matters, which you seem to know in great detail, should include an awareness of the above assertion.
And as for whether or not Obama is a Moslem. For the sake of argument, if he were Moslem, what would his presentation be compared to current observations?
View this video of James Cone, who says, "I created Black Liberation Theology" and see if you find anything recognizable of Biblical Christianity. Cone, of course, was Jeremiah Wright's mentor, and Øbama spent 20 years in Wright's "Christian" church -- not hearing a thing... (Oh, while you're watching, see if you detect any racism there...)
Or, just Google "James Cone" "Black Liberation Theology" and read for yourself.
Øbama is one with a Muslim foundation -- with the shell of Black Power stretched over it and painted with the deceptive label of "Christianity" to shroud its true, racist nature.
Listen to BLT's "Creator" (Cone, not G_d) and make up your own mind about Øbama's "religion"...
Then why did he have the symbols of Christ covered up when he spoke at Georgetown?
Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram IHS--symbolizing the name of Jesus Christbecause it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there. From here.
