Gingrich endorses Hoffman Posted: October 31st, 2009 01:04 PM ET
From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston
WASHINGTON (CNN) Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who came under fire from some conservatives for endorsing Dede Scozzafava in next week's special Congressional election in New York, is now backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.
Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.
"Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman," Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)

“People without principle are always looking to move on”
That’s not always true, because here you are.
You lost. Get over it.

You lost.
In every way possible.
You have no conservative priciples.
You’ve outed yourself and spent wasted hours defending a liberal baby killer.

You’ve supported the liberal RINO.
That’s the fact.
You fought the good fight though. Such intensity.
You should be proud.

I asked the same question when I saw the headline. Twitter? Any man with a spine and some personal honor would have gotten in front of a mic or a camera and explained his error to the best of his ability. Not only does switching his support to Hoffman after Scuzzy left the race make him look weak and unprincipled, communicating that via a medium like Twitter makes him look cowardly, as well.
Agreed.

Have I got a copy [of the pledge]? Nope. Just numerous biased witnesses and second-hand sources to his pledging to support the nominee.

GOP leaders were outraged, especially since Mr. Hoffman, like other congressional hopefuls, had pledged to support the nominee. He did say it repeatedly, said Sandra Corey, the former GOP chairwoman of Jefferson County. And then all of a sudden, its a no-go, like he hadnt understood her background, which is a falsehood. I would never, ever trust him.

Your lines are so old and tired. We understand that “Hoffman did” but you still do. Good luck to you Mr. Owens.

“Despite having signed a pledge to support the eventual nominee to emerge from the process, Hoffman considered the possibility of asking for the Conservative Party’s endorsement to run against Scozzafavva, making it a three way race.”
