It’s good news the GOP is responding to reality. It’s only an obligatory concession though.
Actually since Steele was head of the party & DD was the candidate of the party, he couldn't come out against her as long as she was a candidate. He could and probably did put pressure on her to step aside. That being accomplished, he was free to endorse Hoffman.
The same cannot be said for Newt. He has no office in the party that I'm aware of.
