President Obama called the 22-year ban on travel and immigration by HIV-positive individuals a decision "rooted in fear rather than fact" and announced the end of the rule-making process overturning the ban.
The president signed the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act of 2009 at the White House Friday and also spoke of the new rules, which have been under development more more than a year. "We are finishing the job," the president said.
The regulations are the final procedural step in ending the ban, and will be published Monday in the Federal Register, to be followed by the standard 60-day waiting period prior to implementation.

Ah, but the H1N1 situation is NOT “rooted in fear rather than fact.” Right?
Sure. Once we have free health care for all, why not let every AIDS patient on the planet come here for treatment. Cost of just the drugs alone: $1,200 a month. Oh, but we’ll have a more diverse society.
What, new cases of HIV on the decline? We’ll fix that!
You both bring up interesting points.
Is this beneficial to the US?
So more infected with AID’s can come and continue to overwhelm our healthcare systems....
Of course. a disease with civil rights
Is this beneficial to the US?
That’s the last thing Emperor Obama considers in any action.
Mexico has already outsourced their Welfare and Low-Income Health Care responsibilities to the US Taxpayer.
Now we can look forward to every sub-saharan country also outsourcing their HIV patient health-care to the USA as well.
Don’t believe me? 75% of HIV patients treated by the NHS in the UK are immigrants from Africa.
Why not just lift the ban on any disease ridden person. Wait, HIV is a politically protected disease for a special class of people. Higher legal penalties for assaulting them, special arrangements to get them in the country, laws to ensure no one can fire or harm them in any way for the most disgusting and devient activities. Ah yes, welcome to CHANGE.
You are right, he cares nothing for the country. It’s a perk he’s throwing to the gay/lesbian groups.
"DING! DING! DING! What do we have for him, Johnny?"
How completely and utterly stupid. Once we only accepted healthy people who could take care of themselves. Now, we take the dregs of the world, because we are so “”compassionate” and we have so much extra cash laying around to take care of them. Insane and treasonous!
Why is this a priority - especially now? To the casual observor, it seems there are much more important issues that deserve this administration’s attention. You know - our TROOPS in Afghanistan and Iraq, the economy, job creation...
what is ‘the 60 day waiting period prior to implementation’?
Who can stop him from doing whatever he wants? What a load of crap.
Just adds to the healthcare crisis ... Expect millions to pour in now ...
This sums up the Obama administration in one story. He literally doesn’t care if the number of cases of HIV increases so long as he can pander to homosexual activists.
Great, we once had 1 case, now several million, but hey, let in a few more human vectors and maybe we can raise the infection rate. Somewhere a village in Kenya is missing an idiot.
