He has an easy out, if he would take it. He can simply say he wanted another Republican to stop Pelosi, and at the time Scozzi was it. Now that she has botched her candidacy, he supports the only remaining viable Republican. Don't you mean conservative?

I was stating what Gingrich could say. Hoffman would caucus with the Republicans, and Hoffman is registered Republican. He just happens to be running on the Conservative line. Gingrich is obviously a party man, and I was coming up with a plausible formulation he could use to justify a change of heart. As someone pointed out, he's too proud to admit that he was wrong, so it will be more difficult for him to make a comeback in an elected capacity. He has also damaged his capacity to be regarded as a "wise man" on these sorts of things.
