So how long will Zelaya remain president? Does he stay until January?

How are the elections shaping up for the end of November?

29 Nov is the election....barely four weeks away.

What CNN, NPR and rest fail to tell you....is that Zelaya is allowed to return and act as President (thus getting back into the good graces of America and other Latin American states)...but every part of his deal is a joke.

First, this senate vote in Honduras, which would work to allow him to run a second time for president (currently forbidden by the Constitution)...is merely vote round one. They have to wait twelve months and have the same measure come up and then vote round two, if successful, would allow Zelaya to stay and run a second time. Note here...what the NPR guy didn’t say...his term expires in mid-December of 2009, period. So he would never get to the 29 November ballot anyway.

Second, almost all of the political parties have been working toward the election and have their candidates out in public. This guy has sat in the Brazilian embassy for the past month...sleeping on the floor, while his competition has been meeting people and shaking hands.

Third, the majority of the senate is expected to vote against a change in the constitution...so this is all a wasted effort.

So the OAS and the US all have to smile as democracy works in Honduras, and Zelaya’s hopes and dreams sink pretty quick in this pit.

If you had to write a terrific script for a movie on democracy and political agendas....it’s the Honduras story of 2009. Zelaya should have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize...just be for being dopey. The positive is that he gets six more weeks in the Presidential palace, and then leaves office. Oh, and he gets a pension of some type.
