Towson Conservatives hosted a special guest speaker on Wednesday who is running for a seat in U.S. Congress.
Charles County Republican party chair Charles Lollar is challenging House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer for the 5th congressional district representative of Maryland in the 2010 congressional election.
He spoke to audience members Wednesday night concerning his intentions of running and his views on the current state of the country. He said he decided to run on Oct. 7.
I spoke to them about the economic condition of our country and the direction that our country is going into, Lollar said. I really impressed upon them the importance of being political astute and understanding the times that were in.
Lollar said the election will be significant if he is voted to replace Hoyer, who he said is pushing the Affordable Health Choices Act in a behind the scenes way.
Its extremely significant [to be running against Hoyer] because here you have the ringleader whos trying to put this public option through whos in the back doors, making these decisions, doing all the work behind the scenes by doing this as a recognized leader, leading the socialist movement. We beat him and we change the whole spirit of our country, Lollar said.
Lollar is a former Marine officer who spent time overseas in Kosovo and continues to serve in a reserve capacity as an Intelligence Analyst at the Pentagon.
He said since he fought for America outside the country, he needed to be sure to fight for the country on the inside as well.
Lollar said he is most concerned with the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, known as the cap and trade legislation as well as the current health care bill.
Any time that we put government in a role where it competes with small business, its a problem, Lollar said. The governments role is not to compete, the governments role is to secure our freedoms so that we can do what we do and we can at the end of the day, retain a hard days pay for a hard days work.
It will be a tough run but now is the time for real conservatives and non-politician, politicians since people on both sides are tired of the games.
I’m just slightly biased however, since I’m helping him on his campaign :)
Maryland PING!
