NY District 23: Dem. Owens’ Wife Connected to Debate Moderator
Common American Journal ^ | October 27, 2009 | Stephen Foley

Posted on 10/29/2009 6:12:22 AM PDT by numberonepal

Bill Owens wife, Jane Owens, is on the executive staff of PBS in Plattsburgh the very orginization that is moderating the debate SUNY. Jane Owens, Director of Outreach and Education Mountain Lake PBS.

Ali, Eric, and I have been hearing all around the district that Doug Hoffman is ducking tomorrow nights debate with many questioning both his competency and others questioning his commitment. Amidst the rumor and speculation 73 wire has learned the most compelling argument for Hoffman to skip the debate is that Bill Owens wife, Jane Owens, is on the executive staff of PBS in Plattsburgh the very orginization that is moderating the debate SUNY. Jane Owens, Director of Outreach and Education Mountain Lake PBS

If this is the reason the Hoffman camp is not attending, and we’re not saying it is, the next logical question is why the DeDe camp is not following suite? Although walking into the the lions den is almost always a candidates job Plattsburgh is an Owens stronghold were most of his support and HQ are. We think DeDe might be running headlong into a one sided debate without having all the facts… or could it be she might just feel at home there???

Farce or not, he is going to take some heat for “ducking the debate.” I was disappointed that he did not go. I hope it doesn’t cost him too many votes in the election next Tuesday, but he was foolish to avoid that debate in my opinion.

Candidates I support: Doug Hoffman for Congress, NY 23rd (PayPal), David Harmer for Congress, CA 10th (website for info).

Please, spread the word about these important special elections on November 3, 209: New York’s 23rd congressional district and California’s 10th congressional district.

The left always deals from the bottom of the deck.

What if the DEMS gave another shame event and no one showed up? (to use their old war fantasy)

Why should he have to debate in a clearly fixed situation? Let the people know the truth and why he is not debating.

Why didn’t he show up and challenge the moderator on that issue?

Oh yeah challenging the moderator would garner some excellent press wouldn't it? That would warrant any further attacks on Hoffman at all.

Exactly: Hoffman knew all along with the rest of the county voters that the local Republican party has been infiltrated by the slimy Dems. including the debates/etc. The Ronald Reagan Conservatives know who the real Conservative Republican is. No need for debates, appearances, etc. Just an election day.

He’ll take heat for the day today until the debate TONIGHT in Syracuse that is legitimate, which he’s going to participate in.

Why should he do both?

Anyone who’s seen him on television knows that this is not likely to be his strongest point, however I did note when he was on Glenn Beck that his nervousness disappeared when it came time to attack the hell out of Scozzafava for being a liberal.

Ducking this debate was smart. There wasn’t any reason to do it in a hostile environment when there was a televised one the next day.

I agree with you on most points. Except for the last one.

If he can’t stand a hostile environment, he shouldn’t be running.

Also, it would have been an opportunity to prepare for the televised debate tonight.

Also, last night’s debate was in the district he is running to represent, tonight’s is outside the district. And last night, there was a live audience, tonight is only TV cameras (at least that is what I remember reading).

I know debating isn’t his strong suit. But it is a requirement for the job of a candidate. And “ducking” debates never looks good, even if there seems to be justification for it.

I support Hoffman, and I hope he does well tonight. But he will take some heat over last night. Avoiding that debate was not the best choice.

I disagree. I don’t think anyone really cares where the debate is being filmed. That’s wonkish nonsense like him living 5 miles out of what’s currently the district.

Professional politicians often try to minimize or maximize the number of debates depending on their standing and many other factors in the race.

There was no reason not to duck the debate, because the ‘crowers’ really can’t crow about it beyond today, because he’s showing up at the televised debate.

After he shows up to the debate tonight, it does not hold any water to complain about yesterday’s debate.

If it is part of Hoffman’s strategy to minimize the amount of debate time, that was the debate to miss. There really is no downside, since the complaints about it really can’t be taken seriously after tonight’s debate.

So, all the complainers, whiners, and hand wringers can do their thing for the rest of the day, but tomorrow, it’s back to the race again.

It would be stupid to for Hoffman to enter this liberal trap called a “debate.” He is wise to stay clear. Let the two progressives and the progressive debate moderaters talk amongst themselves.
