You’re right and it did make sense. The definition of *species* is a man made construct and is so flexible and elastic as to be useless. It’s generally twisted and expanded or contracted as suits in order to *prove* that evolution occurred when all that was really observed was variation.
E. coli is still E. coli. Fruit flies are still fruit flies and recognizable as such in spite of any number of induced deformities.
