CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas A Navy T-34 jet trainer with two people aboard has gone missing off the Texas gulf coast. U.S. Coast Guard officials said an air traffic controller at Corpus Christi's naval air station lost contact with the crew about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. The single-engine T-34 was last reported near Port Lavaca. The Coast Guard has dispatched a helicopter, jet and boats to search for the jet. Port Lavaca is about 75 miles northeast of Corpus Christi.

Me too, Tbn. Don’t know what the weather was like there earlier today.
Search for more info pulls up only 3 instances of this short AP article.

Thanks, ODH, I was just getting ready to post that pic!

Good, forgiving acft. Good chance of escape. I used to fly a B model with the MNFC in the ‘80’s. Prayers for the servicemen.

The C models are turboprops. Very dependable.

SONOBUOY PING!
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

The winds were about 35 knots earlier today. My son is stationed there and passed his pre-solo check flight this morning. He said the winds were pretty tricky while he was landing. But he doesn’t have any info on the missing plane.

'Good, forgiving acft. Good chance of escape." It's certainly forgiving and it absolutely wants to return to straight and level flight. The only troubling thing is it doesn't have ejection seats. Depending on the attitude of the aircraft, it may be impossible to exit.
I remember right around 99 or 2000, two were killed in the aircraft, a navy flight instructor and a student.

Thank you, AGx3! Wasn’t expecting weather 411 from the base itself.
And thank your son for his service. And you, I know that this kind of stuff can’t be easy on you.

Thanks. I’ll admit my heart has done a tumbling routine this afternoon. Prayers up for those involved and their families. They are a group of very special young men.

Not quite. That picture is a T-34B with a piston engine. They’ve been all T-34Cs with turboprops for 30 years.
