CIA pays Afghan leader's brother: report
Nine News ^ | October 28, 2009

Ahmed Wali Karzai, the brother of the embattled Afghan president and a suspected drug trafficker, has been on the CIA payroll for most of the past eight years, The New York Times says.

The US spy agency pays Karzai for a variety of services, the newspaper said on Tuesday, such as fielding recruits for an Afghan paramilitary force operating at the CIA's direction in and around his home city of Kandahar, a Taliban stronghold.

He also helps the CIA contact and sometimes meet Taliban followers.

Karzai, who is said to have ties to Afghanistan's lucrative illegal opium trade, has a "wide-ranging" relationship with the CIA, the Times said, citing US officials.

On top of helping the agency operate the paramilitary group that targets suspected violent militants - the Kandahar Strike Force, Karzai is also paid for allowing the CIA and US Special Operations forces to rent a large compound outside Kandahar that once served as the home of Taliban founder Mullah Omar.

"He's our landlord," a senior US official told the newspaper.

The CIA declined to comment when contacted by AFP.

Karzai denied receiving CIA payments or playing any role in the booming opium trade that helps fund the Taliban-led insurgency.

"I don't know anyone under the name of the CIA," he told the newspaper.

"I have never received any money from any organisation. I help, definitely. I help other Americans wherever I can. This is my duty as an Afghan."

The report came amid increasingly tense ties between US President Barack Obama's administration and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, long a darling of the West but whose legitimacy has been shaken by a fraud-marred first round of elections in August.

A run-off has been set for November 7.

Some US officials argued that relying on Ahmed Wali Karzai undermines Washington's efforts to help develop an effective and reliable Kabul government that can stand on its own.

"If we are going to conduct a population-centric strategy in Afghanistan, and we are perceived as backing thugs, then we are just undermining ourselves," Major General Michael Flynn, the top US military intelligence official in Afghanistan, told the daily.

While some US officials said Karzai was likely linked to drug trafficking, others said the intelligence was inconclusive.

So what were U.S. and coalition forces doing in Afghanistan all along?

Hamid Karzai's brother, Ahmed Wali Karzai, is a CIA-employed drug lord. These two are corrupt to the bone, and it comes to reason why U.S. troops are getting killed for no reason at all, and I am not to be dissed as a leftist troll. I am simply telling the truth, revealing the ulterior motive behind the continued occupation of Afghanistan. The CIA, the Taliban and Karzai are propped up by heroin dollars.

The CIA has been and still is, to this day, the biggest drug lord, ever since the War on Drugs scam was exposed. Period.

The New York Times signs another death warrant. When will they ever be held responsible for any of their leaks??

They’ll never be, because the NYT is part of the corporate-globalist elite-controlled MSM cabal, and that same MSM cabal works in sync with the government, regardless of administration.

This is SOP.

How many fine, upstanding, totally ethical people do you expect to find in a stone-age, backward country whose economy rests on poppy fields?

Answer: None of any influence.

The world is a cruel place. Realizing that you have to deal with what is, rather than what you wish it to be, is a political necessity.

Remember when Clinton was President?

This board was full of info on Mena, Barry Seals, Terry Reed, a guy named Lasater, and how Clinton was involved in drug running and the CIA.

Unfortunately we got snookered when Bush was running, Clinton's links as governor to former DCI and Reagan VP "Poppy" Bush (interesting choice of nickname given CIA links to drugs), and all this was swept under the rug because Gore was worse.

This story is derived from one or both of two articles that appeared in the NY Times, the paper noted for printing the fabrications of Walter Duranty, among others. One article was Oct 2009, same month as this article... the other was earlier... in August 2010.
At both times the Obama administration was trying to undermine Karzai because he was resistant to their idea of courting the Taliban, whom Biden had assured everyone was not our enemy.

Some of Hillary’s illegal emails referred to information in these articles that either alleged Hamid Kharzai’s brother a CIA asset or in the case of the other article, alleged that Karzai’s aide Mohammed Zia Salehi a CIA asset.

As we know, Hillary’s email was an open book- whatever was discussed in her email strings was likely compromised, and may very well have been intentionally created to be an open book. Whether Karzai’s brother was an asset or not wouldn’t matter if an enemy was reading Clinton’s emails... they would assume he was from seeing him referenced in her “official” correspondence.

The Taliban would later murder Hamid Kharzai’s brother in 2011.
