Doug Gansler, the current AG in Maryland, was the DA in Montgomery County at the time, and ruled out bringing capital charges to the sniper and the minor sniper.
His flowery quote was something along the lines of “we don’t kill children in Maryland”, or some such nonsense.
Ashcroft, to his everlasting credit, had enough of this liberal and made sure the DC sniper landed in a capital punishment state.
And now he will pay for his crimes.
