Race to replace Tauscher may be closer than first thought

ALAMO, Calif. (KCBS) - Next week, voters in the East Bay will choose a new member of Congress. And, the race to replace Democrat Ellen Tauscher may be closer than first thought.

Cover Story on the candidates: KCBS' Doug Sovern reports

Republican David Harmer has been hammering Lt. Governor John Garamendi in online ads, warning that the veteran Democrat will vote to raise taxes if he gets to Washington...This isn't some sort of prelude to something else. We are absolutely serious about taking this seat and I think we will."

Harmer's internal polling shows him within upset distance in a district with an 18% Democratic registration advantage...

Support this little known race as well..it's not getting MUCH attention in the national media, but it is do-able to be a "pick up". IF WE help the (R) Win (and yes there was an actual ~primary~ in this race unlike NY 23!).

This race could be an upset. This district has elected a Democrat by 2 to 1 in the last 3 or 4 congressional elections. But the race is in single digits in the latest polls. This is supposed to be a “safe Democrat district,” gerrymandered to make a Republican victory nearly impossible. But it appears that Obama fatigue and opposition to spending and debt might flip this seat to a Republican.

I am contacting the NRCC to ask why they are supporting Scozzafava in the race in upstate New York, and why they are ignoring David Harmer in this California’s 10th district. Here are the numbers if anyone else wants to call:

from the NRCC "contact us" web page:

Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

Anybody who wants to donate to Harmer, This link will go straight to his donation page.

He also has a web site with information about his position on the issues, and contact forms and a volunteer signup form. Go to http://www.harmerforcongress.com/default.htm for his website.

Yes. I see you beat me to it. People should demand that the NRCC support the Republican in THIS race and cut their losses on that idiot Scozzafaza, who makes a fool of herself every time she opens her mouth.

Send the money to California!

It would be terrific if Harmer took Garamendi. That slob has been playing on his name for 30 years. It would be nice to get rid of him so he can go back to the Delta and pull pears.

Yes, surprise, surprise, it appears the NRCC is spending its time and money electing Dede Scozzafava, and is not supporting Harmer in California.

"Two other dudes who were added later (but before this round) also stay put: David Harmer (CA-10) and Greg Ball (NY-19). I have to believe this means the GOP is writing off any hope of a stunning Harmer upset in next week's special election."
