Well, yes, and no. This does not take into account the high level of disability owing to disease in early man.

The mortality rate of individuals living in the past was phenomenal. It is our intelligence and culture that enable us to survive. I believe that men have actually gotten larger and healthier. Sure, somebody who does hard work outside for a living toughens themselves up physically and mentally, that is not a revelation.
