“Gingrich called Scozzafava a liberal Republican for her support of gay marriage and abortion rights. But he defended those positions as in-step with her district and her predecessor, former Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.), who was tapped to be President Barack Obamas Army Secretary.”
Except she is not in-step with John McHugh, who is very pro-life and against gay marriage:

Dear Newt, the Republican party NEEDS purging! We are sick of losing elections!
We aren’t the only ones who are sick of you and your friends telling the rest of us who we should elect just because you made some back door deal!
We had to let Bob Dole run because it was ‘his time’ and John McCain was a real winner wasn’t he?!

Another Conservative Against Mondello
May 1, 2009
Conservative author and former Port Authority head George Marlin is out with a piece criticizing Republican State Party chair Joe Mondello’s performance and telling Republicans that if they are “to become relevant in New York’s political arena, they must dump Mondello and install a new generation of leaders committed to a philosophy of smaller government and lower taxes.”
It’s not particularly surprising that Marlin, a Conservative Party activist who has long been in the business of criticizing Republicans he sees as ideologically compromised, would say this. But his critique is in line with what some prominent local Republicans, including former Assembly Minority Leader John Faso and State Senator Marty Golden, have been saying, and will only provide more ammunition to Republicans who feel that Mondello hasn’t articulated a coherent message since taking over.
