FDT probably didn’t want the job. However many Freepers insisted there was no way he could lose. In the face of poor polling and a not very urgent campaign the Fred Heads were absolutly sure he would be the next POTUS.
I’m seeing the same kind of thing now with Palins hardcore followers. Sarah hasn’t even said she wants the nomination, but there’s already Freepers declaring that there’s no way she can lose.

Rather than continue to exchange barbs, tell me why she will never be president? Tell me why she would not make a great president. What is it about her that causes you to think she will not be president and if elected, she would not be a great president.
