Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is warning conservative activists that their support for a third-party candidate in a key upcoming New York special election is a mistake.
In a video captured last week and posted on YouTube Friday, Gingrich told tea party organizer Lisa Miller at a book-signing event that conservatives are inadvertently hindering the cause by backing Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman over Dede Scozzafava, the Republican Partys nominee.
I just think it is a mistake for the conservative movement to think splitting in the special election is a smart idea, Gingrich said. If we give that seat to the Democrats, shame on us.
A number of top national conservative voices have endorsed Hoffman in the last week, while others have yet to weigh in on behalf of either candidate. Gingrich, however, is one of the few prominent conservatives to support Scozzafava.

I like your term “vishy republican” it says so much
The Republican party will not/ever change until people like you grow "a pair" (example: Sarah) and say I am not playing this game anymore. We/YOU! must tell the Rep party to either put up candidates who themselves have "a pair" or we will support those who do.....where ever we find them......
Vichy not vishy...I was probably getting fishy mixed in there, which is exactly what I think Newt’s support of Miss dede is
Thanks for the good info!
Right on, right on!
I remember seeing a post last week where you said the 26th is your birthday............HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Thanks rockabyebaby, for remembering! ;)
I turned 79 and the date is also my 34th anniversary of being clean and sober.
Life is good...One Day At A Time.
Congratulations and best wishes for many many more clean, sober, happy years!
Thanks again! ;)
“Newt Gingrich: Doug Hoffman support a ‘mistake’”
Newt Gingrich: a ‘mistake’
And, hey, who knows mistakes like Newt, eh?
RNC = Repub-likkin’, Not Conservative.
“When did this little prick decide that he was the spokesman for the GOP?”
Newt, Huckabee, and McCain are all self-appointed spokesmen for the GOP. They just don’t GET it; we don’t CARE what they think anymore. They’re losers and have made the GOP a losing entity. And, sadly, it’s the narcissism in each of them that motivates them and it has nothing to do with what’s right or good for America. Pathetic.
Who do you mean? You are Gingrich?
Normally I think it is a mistake to divide the party, so I agree in principle with what Gingrich has said. A majority of conservatives make a minority when it splits down the middle. Folks like Pissant gave us Obama last year.
I disagree with Gingrich in this case, because it actually looks like Hoffman has a little better chance to win than the “Republican.” It’s hard to fathom why Gingrich favors her, except that he seems lately willing to bend over backwards to appear “reasonable” to liberals today.
Well at least the Fonz made it over the shark, I don't think Newt will fly that far.
Hoffman IS a republican, he is only running under the conservative party because the stupid a**ed republican committee that was in charge of selecting the nominee in this election somehow overlooked the conservative candidates and picked Scuzziface to run instead.
Republicans, like all voters, should vote their principles and not stick strictly to party. The "vote only republican" attitude is how we became saddled with RINOs to the point we look like an offshoot of the dem party.
I think Newt has slipped a gear. The mention of his name used to send the liberals into a spitting frenzy. He was toxic to them. Now the conservatives see him the same way. Way to go newt. Just pissed off everyone.
Newt. Your time has come and gone. Go away!
BOLD COLORS!!!
LET THEM GO THEIR WAY!
Of course you agree in principle with Newt. That’s because you are a Republican. But this is a conservative forum, not a GOP cheerleading section.
Newt’s been nothing short of an idiot since about 1995
