Faith involves all that one is, including the intellect.

Many of the greatest intellects in history have been papist Catholics (Augustine & Aquinas spring to mind).

Fides et Ratio (Faith and Reason - meaning that neither one suffices alone) is one motto of the Church.

Regarding Beck, one who applies his intellect when seeking truth about God cannot remain Mormon.

Human beings often compartmentalize, and Beck does this when it comes to his religion: he does not apply his intellect to his faith because he likely understands that he dare not.

Happily, the papist Catholic Church has, for millennia, encouraged the most learned men to test and scrutinize every aspect of Christian doctrine - and this doctrine endures.

Beck would not admit to doubts about his mormonism if he has them...the cost to him with his family and friends would be too high. Leaving the mormon church is seen as a great "sin" and taken personally by many members.

There are instances of "apostates" losing spouses, friends and family members because of it.

Here

Also, alcoholics are prone to "magical thinking" Magical thinking: the ability to draw conclusions that are based on a person’s desire for what reality should be, not necessarily upon what reality actually is.

"Magical thinking" plays well with the cognitive dissonance required to believe in Joseph Smith, visions of God and Jesus appearing to him, golden plates, the bestowing of the "keys" of the "priesthood" by Peter James and John on Joseph Smith, and the requirement of baptizing the dead as mormons by living proxies.

Beck would do well to not mention his faith on air.

Is it intellect that helps you to be a Christian? Is that why The Savior picked Fishermen, For Their Intellect. Most Mormons believe more of the Bible than most Christians I have had discussion with.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, let us make man in our own image, after our likeness. Chrisians say: It doesn’t mean that! Genesis 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam, in the day that God created man in the likeness of God made he him.
Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image and called his name Seth. THE LANGUAGE IS THE SAME. WE ARE THE IMAGE OF GOD PHYSICALLY.

JESUS APPEARS 3 TIMES AFTER HIS RESURRECTION, WITH A BODY, AND ATE WITH THE APOSTLES: John 23:5,14, verse 25 says there are not enough books to contain all that Jesus said. Why then is the Bible all we need of His word.
Why did Christ appear 3 times with a body and ascend into heaven with a body? What is the message, he did nothing without teaching us!!
