I guess it’s a good thing that few of the disasters our parents warn us of actually occur.

Or is it bad that we get away with doing so many stupid and dangerous things ...

Bad.
Because then we push our luck.
And eventually statistics catches up and pushes back.
Usually face first into a mud puddle.

Oh, really? I distinctly recall my father's constantly warning us to close the door in the wintertime, because he didn't want to heat up the whole outdoors.

And now look where we are! Was my father prescient or what?

He didn't call it global warming though.
