Obama ran as both a Clintonite centrist and a no-red-state/no-blue-state healer who had transcended bitter partisanship. That assurance allowed voters to believe that his occasional talk of big change was more cosmetic than radical.

Just a tiny bit of research into the man's beliefs/past would have revealed that not to be true--I guess that's too much to ask though from your average dumb sh!t, lazy voter.
