The White House's election-year fratricide
Washington Post ^ | October 23, 2009 | Lee Hockstader

Posted on 10/23/2009 10:06:10 AM PDT by La Lydia

Democrats are not known for being overburdened with the gift of partisan solidarity, but in throwing Creigh Deeds under the bus, the White House is setting a high bar for election-year fratricide. Deeds, the Democratic candidate for governor in Virginia...has not run the most strategically adept campaign. Nor is he a particularly adroit candidate...Still, he has been an effective state senator...He also happens to be the Democratic nominee.

That’s not good enough for the White House, apparently. Peeved that Deeds declined to define himself as “an Obama Democrat” -- when pressed, he said, “I’m a Creigh Deeds Democrat” -- the White House and its shills in the national Democratic Party (including, prominently, the DNC chair and sitting Virginia governor, Tim Kaine) are blaming Deeds for ignoring their advice. Had he only taken it, he wouldn’t lag so badly in the polls, they insist.

But then there’s the small matter of the Obama administration’s ham-fisted handling of the health-care debate, and its wishy-washy dithering on everything from Afghanistan to the Dalai Lama. That made the campaign trail toxic this summer...

...Democrats are critical of Deeds’s failure to lock up support from a pair of African-American luminaries in Virginia, former Gov. Doug Wilder and Sheila Johnson...But had Obama himself campaigned more vigorously for Deeds...who would be talking about Wilder and Johnson?

The White House is clearly dreading at the prospect of news stories that portray a Republican victory in Virginia as an early referendum on the Obama presidency. But in their hurry to blame Deeds, administration officials are overlooking their own role in the Democrats’ travails. And in the process, they will be largely responsible for the down-ballot collateral damage that Democrats look likely to suffer on Election Day Nov. 3.

Rush played the audio of Obama in a Deeds ad or something. It was all about Obama.

An Obama Democrat? I can see the day when there will be none to be found—kinda like Confederate money.

I think Baraq has toxic coattails when he himself is not on the ballot.

However he will still pull 40% of the votes in 2012.

My guess is Soros funds RINOs and tries to force a 3 way election giving Baraq a shot at a Clintonian plurality win.

That is just BS. Democrats are the most fervently partisan, lock step marching group thinkers in the world. What they hate is losing.

When they lose they always throw the loser under the bus rather then admit it is their radical Leftist ideology that costs them elections

Start planning now for your absentee ballot in 2012, because your polling place will be a ZOO.

I thought the MSM was saying the RNC was doing it with that race in upstate NY. The Conservative is surging and it is bothering the MSM and making the Dems nervous. Looks like 1860 all over again with the RNC playing the part of the Whigs.

This Administration will point the finger at anybody but themselves. They have been blaming Bush for everyting for 12 months and now they will start “eating their own” to keep the blame spotlight off themselves.

NY-23

The Dem still has a lead, all the squabbling is among the GOP and independents apparently. I hope Hoffman can pick up enough to win this thing, too bad there is a RINO in the race siphoning votes from the inattentive Republican voters.

Wow, a WaPo political article concerning Va elections and not one mention of Maccaca? Got to love the WaPo, no mention of their failed hit piece on McDonnel for the benefit of Deeds. WaPo go screw yourself. Keep your nazi leanings in DC.

Sheila Johnson is a Democrat who was on Obama’s team.

She now understands what the Democrats are all about. She decided McDonnell would be better for her home state, and in return, the left attacked her for “making fun of Deeds”.

When another liberal black democrat supported George Allen in 2006, he was brutally attacked, called names, and then primaried out of his elected office.
