The latest poll in the New York special election shows a close race, with Democrat Bill Owens leading Republican Dede Scozzafava 35 to 30 percent, with Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman at 23 percent.

Also note: The survey was conducted from October 19-21, largely before Scozzafava was criticized for calling the police on a Weekly Standard reporter

This is the newest poll that we have, but it is still before the complete meltdown of Scozzafava. Significantly, most of this poll occurred before the stories about the police 911 call on John McCormack of the Weekly Standard and the brouhaha that followed that event.

Has everyone seen this: “The Most Important Number in Politics Today.”

Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).

Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.

Scozzafava also holds these positions:

Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.

This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.

There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the house who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year. Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

Tell me how Scozzafava is any different from the Dem. In fact, she's probably more liberal.

I would LOVE to see Hoffman pull this off. But if he doesn’t, so be it. It is a call to the GOP to wake up and start listening to We The People. Maybe next time they will put out a real conservative Republican candidate that we can get behind. I am voting my conscience from here on out-devil may care. What good did it do us to get behind McCain? They brought us along kicking and screaming-but not anymore. The People are awake now.

What do you win if a liberal republican is in office?

if Hoffman withdraws, I’d bet less than a third of his supporters hold there nose and vote for Scozzafava (RINO-ACORN). On the other hand, if she withdraws, I’d bet twice as much that 2/3 of her supporters would vote for Hoffman. So if she was interested in the good of the party (of course as an Arlen Specter republican she’s not) she’d quit. And if the morons at the RNC really wanted to hold the seat, they’d toss her. I hope Hoffman pulls it off, but I think in a 3-way, the demhole wins.

You’re right. The dem might win yet. But wouldn’t he anyway against this scumbag? And we need to shwo the RNC that we are not puppets anymore. I sent money to Hoffman. Even if he loses, it was worth it. Steele and the rest should be crapping in their pants now as donations to the RNC go down, and people are sending their money directly to conservative independent candidates.

I saw that, too. I am trying to determine whether this is a legitimate poll or not. They claim this poll was done by Research 2000, yet when you go to the website for Research 2000, there is no mention of this poll on that site.

I have sent a message through the contact form at Research 2000, and I have called and left a message with them. If this is confirmed as legitimate, or if it is a hoax, I will post back with the answer.

Perhaps. This poll is not inline with other information I have on this race. I don’t have any specific numbers, but I believe that the internal polls from both the Hoffman and Scozzafava campaigns show Hoffman ahead of Scozzafava, perhaps in the overall lead.

The recent behavior of all three campaigns seems to support this speculation. Owens is now attacking Hoffman, not Scozzafava so much. You attack the leader. And Dede was in front of Hoffman’s campaign headquarters yesterday calling for debates. You don’t go to the guy who is in last place and ask him for debates. You ask for debates when you are behind.

Finally, there are the Bachmann and Palin endorsements. You don’t endorse outside your party if you aren’t endorsing the leader (and ultimately the winner). This was a risky move for both of them, especially Bachmann. I don’t see where these endorsements would have happened if Hoffman was trailing Scozzafava.

Yeah, it’s sad. And if we had to vote for the lesser of two evils like we have had to lately, I’d vote for the dem. Look what that idiot Gingrich had to say.

Update: I received this from a representative of Research 2000.
From an email from Research 2000:
Yes, we did do a poll in NY-23. I am not sure why it is not update on web site, it should be shortly. You can go to the Daily Kos web site and they should have full cross tabs on that poll.
So at this point, I think this is probably a legitimate poll. Sorry if my previous post confused that issue.

You win nothing and lose everything - you now have someone in there who votes with the rats providing them cover and allowing them to claim of bi-partisan support. This is why RINOs are more dangerous than rats in my opinion.

I love that Sarah went all in for Hoffman, but you are right, every time we split the GOP vote the Democrat wins, goes all the way back in history, if this is an exception, it will be a first and, I guess, a real test of the Tea Party movement and the willingness of people to get off the couch and go vote.

Yes, she is. If Hoffman doesn’t win, in this case the dem is a better choice, she is supported by ACORN and KOS, etc...

Daily Kos is for the GOP candidate. I prefer Hoffman win, but an Owens victory would be OK too.
