The point is:
1) We here know what Conservatism/Christianity means.
2) We here know how important NY-23 is: We’re racing to see if we can overcome deliberate sabotage by the RNC by splitting the Republican vote between two candidates.
3) How much more should a Republican Governor know the importance of NY-23, given he is supposed to represent the best of us, and not be sitting in a governor mansion, admiring himself in a mirror, saying, “It is because the greatness, of the glory, of my majesty, that I am governor to these peasants.” He should be saying rather, “How can I unburden those I am charged with serving? How can I make them more free and prosperous?”

Sorry, there are plenty of excellent conservatives that don't happen to be Christian. If you want to live in a theocracy, move to Iran.
