I remember that movie...”Dead Calm,” IIRC. Good grief was she hot. Ridiculously, stupefyingly, are-you-kidding-me hot. Nowadays, though? Too much plastic surgery for me. One more round on her face and the corners of her eyes are going to meet in the back of her head.

“by portraying them as sex objects”

What’s she talking about and how come there aren’t any pictures of her yet??

“Nowadays, though? Too much plastic surgery for me.”

Well, yeah, but she’s also in her 40s, right? It goes either way. She could never, ever reclaim her former looks under any circumstances.

"Does Nicole take responsibility for picking ding bat husbands?"

It wasn't a husband, it was a prop - purely a business arrangement.

“...in an appearance before the US Congress ...”

OK, how do I get one of those? Oh, you have to be rich or famous? Guess that leaves out most of us.

I bet she’d be absolutely stunning in her 40s without having her facial skin winched back by turnbuckles once a year. :)

"The Academy award-winning actor Nicole Kidman used an appearance before the US Congress to accuse Hollywood of contributing
to violence against women by portraying them as sex objects."

The woman is an actress unless the new sex-change movie she's producing and plans to star in, is based on reality.  LINK LINK

As for Hollywood portraying women as sex objects, I salute Kidman for the way she has refused to be a sex kitten.

It's great to know our daughters will have one women they can look up to.

I'm beginning to see where they go the title 'Eyes Wide Shut' from.

It's just strange to see these dilusional people, and the people that listen to them, on display.

Maybe, at least relative to other 40-somethings. But not like she was in her early films.

a House foreign affairs subcommittee that is considering legislation to tackle violence against women overseas.

Why is the United States House of Representatives involved in this at all?

But didnt you do that movie about having violent sex with minors and then brainwashing them into killing your husband??

That was in To Die For. I don't remember the details about violence, etc. But I do remember that these scenes are high reminiscent of the recent stories about female teacher / male student sexual relationships. Not guilty.

When I read your post, my reading glasses caught the side of one word, and it looked like you typed, “Eyes Wide Slut”.

What a Freudian slip.

A more accurate way to say it:

Nicole Kidman says Nicole Kidman contributes to violence against women.

She also played a prostitute in Moulin Rouge. Although she did go for the guy she actually loved in the end. But still...prostitution isn’t exactly a good role model.

Harvey Keitel was originally in “Eyes Wide Shut”.

There was an orgy scene and unfortunately for Nicole, Harvey is a “method actor”.

Guess why Cruise got him fired and all of his scenes reshot using another actor....:)

That is apparently just a rumor:

The guy was making 3 to 4 films a year in the late 90's. I suspect Kubrick's perfectionism led to one too many reshoots for Keitel. And a good thing, too, given that Eyes Wide Shut was such a stinker - it needed overseas ticket sales to cover its bloated (given that there were no special effects to talk about) production budget.

I loved Barry Lyndon, Eyes Wide Shut was junk despite the nudity.

But she killed him in the end and rescued her husband. I don't know. She's played several roles where she's done her fair share of being the useless pretty face. Cold Mountain is one. She was pretty worthless until times got hard and Renee Zellweger showed her how to kill a rooster and feed herself.

I thought she was horrible in Days of Thunder.
