Scozzafava Candidacy: Not the Fault of DC GOP
Pajamas Media ^ | October 22 | Dan Riehl

Posted on 10/22/2009 9:40:33 AM PDT by AJKauf

I’ve taken some heat for posts I’ve written on Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava versus conservative Doug Hoffman in NY-23. My posts have been misinterpreted as supportive of Scozzafava, which they truly were not. Blame that on me, as the posts weren’t clear enough about the thought process going on behind the scenes. But that’s less important than the issue at hand. My conservative credentials are intact. But how conservatives win the current civil war within the GOP is important to me. We must build the party up and become strong, not simply tear things down because we disagree with them.

Scozzafava does not appear to be anyone for whom I would ever vote or actively support. Still, how the internal GOP battle plays out, including in NY-23, is very important to me. Call me an old Reagan man. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to defeat Scozzafava. But how we do it matters very much.

The GOP is not and has never been the conservative movement. The current battle should not be about decimation; it should be about control. Reagan, in his too often unheralded and underappreciated wisdom, knew that the key to victory was not in trying to leave or otherwise destroy the GOP, but in coming to dominate it democratically and with a reasonable hand. ...

No, it's just the fault of the DC establishment for backing Scozzabama after the fact.

But it is the fault of the DC GOP to give well over $100,000 of support to her, long after knowing what she was.

Screw the GOP!

The RNC either pointedly refusing to support Scozzafava or even publicly supporting Hoffman could have served as a warning to local party officials and a rallying cry for the conservatives that the Republican party really was their home. Instead, they chose to state the opposite. I have heard them loud and clear. (and I also heard Newt, too).

Newt doesn’t get it, and not for the first time.

By giving money to her campaign and endorsing her, the DC GOP establishment makes themselves complicit with this Scozzafava idiocy. What the DC establishment needs to do is withdraw all support publicly, and demand that she withdraw from the race.

I was under the impression that Pajamas Media was a Raging Rino website however I don’t see the logo. However most of their PJM Exclusives are Rino oriented.

I don’t know what to make of this. The Republican party, including the “leadership” in DC are the ones that really need to make some decisions. Conservatives at the grass roots haven’t changed all that much. It is the leadership that has wandered off to pursue other voters. In the process, they have abandoned conservatives.

At the grass roots, conservatives need to decide whether it is better to take back the Republican party, or start with something new. The moves by Sessions and Steele in this race have made it more difficult to work within the Republican party. Perhaps they will learn from this big mistake.

As for Scozzafava, the DC establishment could have sat this race out. They could have offered her the bare minimum support and left it at that. The RCCC was where the big mistake was made. Sessions and the RCCC were the first place that the locals went with their new candidate Scozzafava. I think that was before the closing deadline for the ballot. Sessions blamed this on staffers, but if staffers made this important decision, there is a problem with the management of the committee.

The bizarre thing is how they followed up by going all in last week. I’ll never understand that move.

It would have been very bad for the RCCC or RNC to support Hoffman as a Conservative opponent to their party’s candidate. That should never have been considered.

About the NY23 race, Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).

Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.

Scozzafava also holds these positions:

Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.

This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.

There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the house who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year. Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

From the desk of
cc2k:
I support Doug Hoffman for Congress (PayPal).

Please, spread the word about this important election on November 3, 2009 in New York’s 23rd congressional district.

Absolutely. You are a genius.

The way to rebuild the republican party is to elect more Arlen Specters, Cynthia Snowes, Lindsay Grahms; all Pelosi and Reid look alikes. That will really solve our financial and health problems.

Hey, let’s run Newt. Get some real repubs...

Naw, recruit Michael Moore. He will do anything for money. Run him with RNC money.

How anyone could be so blind as to not see what happened as a result of running McCain escapes me. That put the writing on the wall for all but the blind to see.

I guess the buck now stops over there?

The GOP in DC has chosen to support Scozzafava. Just like with Obamao, you can judge the character of these charlatans by the candidates they choose to support in word and money. They ARE responsible for her candidacy - by their historical and present intransigence.

The Republican establishment in DC can be blamed for at least three or four serious mistakes.

1. Funding this screaming liberal when they knew that she was pro-abort, pro-gay, pro-taxes, and pro-big union, plus being an idiot, plus having a crooked husband so the Democrats wouldn’t allow her on THEIR ticket.

2. Having a bunch of big name Republicans come forward and endorse her. The hell with that. Every one of those guys is now labeled as a loser.

3. Not leaning on the local people who choose the candidates BEFOREHAND. It was their job to make sure that the local Republicans were in line with basic party principles, and in particular that they didn’t deliberately nominate a pro-abort, pro-gay, big union, stupid candidate in a safe Republican district. The locals Republican Mafia should have been warned ahead of time that there were lines they couldn’t cross if they wanted Party support.

4. This one I’m not sure of. But if the gang running that district was so corrupt and stupid, maybe they should have been deprived of their Republican ID cards long since.

In any case, 1-3 certainly apply. These guys are supposed to be the leaders. Boehner is supposed to LEAD. But he seems incapable of doing so, or of disciplining his troops when it is needed. Of course Olympia Snowe had betrayed us on Obamacare. Why shouldn’t she, when she betrayed on on Porkulus and received ZERO punishment for it?

Of course these jerks in New York selected a loser with connections. Because the leadership never let them know that there would be a price for such stupidity.

Riehl is right about the overall Reagan strategy, but the poster in this thread saying that the money and the support after the fact are completely out of bounds are also correct. Stopping full blown fascism will require the help of people who are not conservatives, but it doesn’t require throwing money and endorsements at them.
