Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel Criticizes Informant in Huge Corruption Scandal
NewsBusters ^ | October 22, 2009 | P.J. Gladnick

There is currently a huge corruption scandal involving public officials in Broward County Florida that is being investigated by the FBI. The local Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel newspaper, which has been dragging its feet until recently on reporting this scandal, has finally gotten around to criticizing someone involved in the scandal investigation...the informant who helped break the case. I kid you not.

First let us look at the background on the Sun-Sentinel's reluctance to do what it is supposed to do, namely investigating local scandals. The reporter who has actually been writing about the breaking scandals in depth for weeks doesn't even work for the Sun-Sentinel. He is Bob Norman of the Broward Palm Beach New Times free newspaper who describes the Sun-Sentinel foot-dragging in his Daily Pulp blog:

One of the great joys of watching the greatest corruption story in Broward County history begin to unfold during this past month has been watching the Sun-Sentinel play catch-up.

...The Sentinel, you have to understand, is what I call an "official" newspaper. In general, it listens to local bigwigs and does what it's told, paying short shrift to those who would challenge those same officials. Yes, it's the exact opposite of what a good newspaper is supposed to do, but it paid the bills for years and years.

The Sun-Sentinel has a history of being overly chummy with the local officials, many of who are corrupt. Thus their reluctance in reporting these breaking scandals.

We have “official” newspapers here in North Louisiana. Which is the precise reason I began my blog several months ago and started attending meetings of the City Council, School Board and Police Jury (County Commission).

Newspapers “protect access” by selling their silence.

“You, corrupt local official, agree to buy ads in our paper for your real estate/car/retailer/etc business for yourself or your husband or wife and we will not report the story...”

This is the paper at ground zero in 2000 and could not figure out the real story.

New Times http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/pulp/ has the best coverage of this scandal which is huge....... half a billion has been blown on unneeded school construction

All because various school board members got smeared by contractors. But the rot starts at top with Nutter who heads Broward schools

Meanwhile the Monroe County (FL Keys) school superintendent and his wife have stolen at least $500K from the school and the mentally handicapped and they released without bail

School Superintendent Randy Acevedo was just convicted of three Felonies and the bubba Judge sentenced him to ..... 2 hours per week community service in a key deer refuge

Since the corruption did not involve Bush or evil ‘neocons’, it is a non-issue for the Sun Sentinel news paper.

They don’t view Democrat corruption as news worthy and anyone including a whistle blower exposing said corruption is now the target of their wrath.

PJ, great post! Everone should read the Pulp written by Bob Norman @the FREE Broward Palm Beach New Times newspaper. He has done yeoman work in exposing the local Broward County Democrapper corruption the local Sun Sentinel has managed to overlook. Proof that the Lame Media is not worthy of existence!
