In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases. The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there's an epidemic?
Some public health officials privately disagreed with the decision to stop testing and counting, telling CBS News that continued tracking of this new and possibly changing virus was important because H1N1 has a different epidemiology, affects younger people more than seasonal flu and has been shown to have a higher case fatality rate than other flu virus strains.
...On Aug. 4, CBS News asked the CDC for e-mail communications to states and other documents regarding the guidance and its rationale. When CDC did not provide us with the documents, such as state-by-state numbers prior to halting testing and tracking, we filed a Freedom of Information request with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). More than two months later, the request has not been fulfilled.
...We asked all 50 states for their statistics on state lab-confirmed H1N1 prior to the halt of individual testing and counting in July. The results reveal a pattern that surprised a number of health care professionals we consulted. The vast majority of cases were negative for H1N1 as well as seasonal flu, despite the fact that many states were specifically testing patients deemed to be most likely to have H1N1 flu, based on symptoms and risk factors, such as travel to Mexico.
...With most cases diagnosed solely on symptoms and risk factors, the H1N1 flu epidemic may seem worse than it is. For example, on Sept. 22, this alarming headline came from Georgetown University in Washington D.C.: "H1N1 Flu Infects Over 250 Georgetown Students."

Good advice in general, yet as I understand it, most flu viruses are airborne.
I can only speak for myself and say, I got the standard flu vaccine, but will pass on the H1N1 shot for its general lack of testing and that I wouldn't trust the government - especially this administration - at all. Though of course you're the pregnant one.... Congratulations for that!
That you seem to have an investigative frame of mind is a very good thing.
All the best, and God Bless You and Yours....
If this administration told me the sky is blue and the grass is green, I'd go check.
Of course, SeeBS has about the same level of credibility with me along with the rest of ABCNNBC(BS).
Cessation of testing in all but some hospitalized cases in some jurisdictions has left an incomplete data set, relying solely on symptomatic interpretation for an estimation of the number of cases.
The entire outbreak has been mind-bogglingly ineptly handled from the start, and at this point the only reason for the furror I have been able to surmise is the possibility that the vaccine contracts for a disease which is commonly not severe have been let as a 'gimmie' to buy the silence of the providers on the looting of the remainder of the healthcare sector, including the insurance providers.
As this administration is populated with people who have either verbally expressed or directly (through their actions)shown contempt for the rule of law, I can only infer that the actions of the administration are either criminal in nature or designed to facillitate criminal enterprise, namely the organized and thorough looting of the American economy.
For up to 21 days.
The gift that keeps on giving.
They over-inflated cases so as to make the CFR - case fatality rate - look smaller. It was actually to make people think it’s not very bad, while it continues to spread (and who knows the real numbers).
If there are supposdly “millions” of cases and only say 1500 dead, the CFR is small. That’s what they want people to think.
Time will tell what is really happening. With the CDC obfuscation, hiding numbers, and downright lying, it is difficult to impossible to know the actual situation.
Did the doctor tell you to take the nasal vaccine?
Pregnant women can’t take the nasal vaccine. That’s also the one with most of the controversy. The shot is the killed vaccine that’s supposedly (my doctor said) manufactured the same way as the regular flu shot.
Thanks for everyone’s comments. I’d be less hesitant about taking the shot if the anthrax vaccine hadn’t turned out so badly. My husband was in the military at the time and refused it. They kept saying it was safe, nothing to worry about, etc.
He didn’t say which one, only that I should get one, but I’m not going to.
