I've talked to some of these people and it's not even based on anything specific. In fact, they can't name anything specific. So they say something vapid like 'she looks inept in interviews'.

Well has it ever occurred to them that the media was out to make her look inept in interviews.

They don't like her because she shatters the image they would like to create of what a Republican is. And she does, probably because, strictly speaking, she's ideologically a conservative, not a Republican. So she's into individual freedom. And that upsets their government-centric universe.

If Sarah Palin is right, then everything they have ever believed to be true is wrong. And that makes their heads explode.
