Virginia Gov 2009: Obama steps up activity for Deeds; Republicans up big in poll

President Barack Obama’s Oct. 27 appearance on behalf of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds will be at Old Dominion University, his campaign said today.

The president will appear a week before Election Day at ODU’s Ted Constant Center.

Obama will try to reignite the voters who helped him become the first Democratic presidential candidate in 44 years to carry Virginia.

Deeds, meantime, has released a new television ad in which Obama encourages Virginia Democrats to help elect the state senator as governor.

The development came as Public Policy Polling released a survey that shows Republicans leading by double-digits in all three statewide races.

Obama’s comments in the ad come from his Aug. 6 fundraiser with Deeds in Fairfax County.

“I need every one of you to get fired up once again so that we can go towards the future, with Creigh Deeds leading the great commonwealth of Virginia,“ Obama says.

In the new poll, Republican Bob McDonnell leads Deeds 52 percent to 40 percent, up from his 5-point edge three weeks ago.

McAuliffe, Clinton try for another bump for Deeds

Former President Clinton came to Tysons Corner on Tuesday to help energize the gubernatorial campaign of Democrat Creigh Deeds, right.

Former President Clinton and one-time gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday tried to reignite the energy of Creigh Deeds’ primary win, when Democrats were riding high after the rural state senator’s come-from-behind victory in June.

The gubernatorial nomination fight saw Deeds dispatch both McAuliffe and Del. Brian Moran, taking nearly 50 percent of the vote in June. A poll taken directly after the primary was the only one in the governor’s race to show Deeds ahead of Republican nominee Bob McDonnell, who is entering the last two weeks of the race with a comfortable lead.

McAuliffe, speaking before a crowd at his former Tysons Corner campaign office, said Deeds is poised to mount the “greatest comeback in the history of America politics.”

The former Democratic National Committee chairman and Clinton fundraiser was widely viewed as the favorite over Deeds and Moran going into the primary.

“From a man who knows from experience, don’t pay any attention to the polls,” McAuliffe said. “Only one poll matters and that is on the evening of November 3 when Creigh Deeds is elected the next governor.

“Did you see the Post editorial Sunday? Totally spoiled my sourdough french toast and eggs benedict...”

You read The Washington Post”? Why support that rag with your money? Tell me that you found a copy on the Metro.

>> I can’t see why he’s doing this outside of inability to accept his own vulnerability.

Inability to accept his own vulnerability is a GOOD thing!

Like your tagline says...

I look forward to 0bama attaching his name to the Dweebs campaign. When Dweebs loses, as he apparently (and handily) will, 0bama’s going to have to eat that loss as partly his own.

Me, too. According to latest polls, independents and youth voters are fleeing Obama and headed right to the GOP.
