With her life perhaps just a pull of the trigger from ending, a St. Paul bank teller refused to hand over the cash.
But the gunman, rather than firing the black handgun he had aimed at the teller, fled on foot without a nickel more than he had when he entered the bank Tuesday afternoon.
The FBI describes the suspect who tried to rob the Cherokee State Bank at 607 Smith Av. S. as white, in his 30s, 5 feet 8 to 6 feet tall, with a slender to medium build. He was wearing a black coat, blue jeans, a white bandanna around his neck, and a red baseball cap. He was last seen running across Smith Avenue in front of the bank, located across the Mississippi River from downtown.

When the gun is pointed at YOU, its not about company policy.
Well, at least you weren't in danger or scared, because after all...they were gentlemen.
Wow...logic does defy you on this.
Yes. I believe juris prudence even backs up that the robber/shooter would infact be the guilty party. But businesses carry insurance providing for workers comp in the event of injury or loss of life in these cases...so acting (during a robbery) like this woman did is either an act of potential suicide/profound depression/or flat out stupidity. Her actions are contrary to any training she would have received and (I would guess) negate any potential workers’ comp claim (in the event of her being shot/killed). Dumb, dumb move.
Your rape argument is a strawman in this case, as there was a counter separating the robber from the teller. He was not attempting to drag her to a back room. He infact did ‘request’ the money in the drawer. He pointed a gun; she acted against any policy or reasonable thought (for I am guessing about 2k (fully insured) in her drawer if even that much).
I don’t own a business, I work for others. I have worked for big boxes and a ‘mom and pop’ outfit and no one has ever told me or any other employee...’you defend that register with your life!’ The ‘request’ was for the contents of a cash drawer she would have been trained to hand over/pack up. To do anything else ramps up the situation even further.
Keep defending the action...but I’ll give you this scenario back. What if a loved one of yours was either a co-worker or customer in that bank at that time when the cashier decided it was ‘ovaries of steel’ time. Your loved one, who statistics will back up, would have walked away from the incident (had the robber made a quick retreat with the ‘requested’ money bag) gets shot and killed. Would you still be ‘cyber high fiving’ the teller who said no?
Yes it is...because he doesnt want me; or my money (that’s in my purse in my locker) he wants the cash that I have been employed to handle. As such, I have been told to, at all times, hand over money during a robbery...for my safety; my coworkers and customers as well.
You have no argument.
Hope so, she doesn’t at a bank anymore. She stuck it out for a year, didn’t give into the fear!!
When the head of security called I let him have it. One month earler, the glass was taken down.
Customer Service my Obama, tell that to the 87 year old lady who had to hide in a corner.
Someone with ovaries of steel would have ended up with the ROBBER'S wallet.
And smacked him around with his own gun.
Forgot “work”, my bad.
If you were Cthulhu, you would have opened your mouth and devoured their souls.
Yes, and if I were Bernard Goetz i would have blown their F**KING heads off. But I’m not, I’m just Hildy and I froze. I was very young, about 20. Here’s a tip for ya..if you ever want to hold someone up, wear a multi-colored hat. Your victim’s eye goes to the hat and they’ll never be able to identify you in a lineup.
Like Richard Pryor said, “You go from ‘Macho Man’, to ‘Dead Person.’”
Being passive can often leave people dead, especially the ones being passive. She wasn't and isn't. And what does your workers comp pay for being dead? No thanks. I'll take being alive over being your employee of the month.
Your rape argument is a strawman in this case,...
Not at all. The point is that some attackers become more and more emboldened by the passivity of their victims.
Keep defending the action...but Ill give you this scenario back. What if a loved one of yours was either a co-worker or customer in that bank at that time when the cashier decided it was ovaries of steel time. Your loved one, who statistics will back up, would have walked away from the incident (had the robber made a quick retreat with the requested money bag) gets shot and killed. Statistically, customers never get shot because of teller issues. And the actual facts are that the robber ran away without harming anyone. You are arguing with the facts, not me. You are teaching people to do what the insurance companies think will cost them the least amount of money, not what is necessarily best for them.
Very revealing responses on this thread. It shows that leftist indoctrination works as planned. Sort of a parable on the Obama administration which is “requesting” we hand over the money, business, etc after all, it really isn’t our money. Submit and forget that the real costs are deferred with the bill coming due to each and every one of us and our posterity.
Aren’t too many Churchills around here are there?
Compliant and passive is no way to go through life.
Maybe, just maybe, she saw the the perp wasn’t holding a real gun, but a air gun or a fake plastic gun. Not saying, just saying that maybe that was why she refused. For those of you saying she should have given the money to him, it is no guarantee you won’t shot simply because you hand over the money.
She probably wanted to give him the money,
but was afraid to tell him the bank was
insolvent.
Can’t they just do it like in Raising Arizona and put the exploding dye in the bag of money?
Darling you haven’t read my almost ten years worth of posts here.
You would find that using ones’ G-d given gifts (intelligence for one) and not risking leaving my kids motherless, to prove I have some kind of ‘Dirty Harry (Mary?)’ fixation with my employer’s money would be in line with my thought process. The same robber coming into my home would meet a different person as I would be defending my family and home.
Your take on this is amazing. And you didnt answer...what would YOUR thoughts be if a loved one of yours lost their life due to a teller/cashier acting as this one did.
See my post #14......
i've been held up twice... the first time in the jewelry department of a major department store... i dropped behind the counter--as the robber with the big gun said, "everybody down!" there was a whole gang of them... the others were breaking open the jewelry cases... i crawled my way out the back and ran up a flight of stairs to the warehouse... i didn't even think about what i was doing... (i burned my legs as i crawled out, btw)
the second time i was getting my hair done for my niece's wedding that very day... a guy came in, went to the register and tried to open it... the owner went to the register and kept pushing him away... as that was going on, i ran out the front door to the 7-11 across the way where my husband was in line getting a soda! so i guess in those situations, i run away...
