The US Supreme Court has said it will hear a case about the rights of Chinese Muslim detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

The 17 have been in Guantanamo Bay for nearly eight years

A number of ethnic Uighurs are still being held despite no longer being deemed a threat to the US, after the Pentagon cleared them in 2004.

The court will decide whether federal judges have the right to order their release into the US when no other country can be found to take them.

US President Barack Obama wants to close Guantanamo by early next year.

An appeals court ruled in February that federal judges did not have that power.

The appeals court said that only the executive branch, not the judiciary, could make decisions on immigration.

China fears

The Obama administration has meanwhile been making efforts to find a place for the remaining Uighur detainees to go.

Four were sent to Bermuda in June and the Pacific island nation of Palau has said it will take 12 of the remaining 13.

Hard to believe Mark Steyn was not subbing for Limbaugh when this news came down today.

“US President Barack Obama wants to close Guantanamo by early next year.”

Yes, he has promised Fidel that he will vacate GITMO and give it back the the Dictator of Cuba. Professional courtesy from one Commie to another Commie.

They have no standing at SCOTUS or US Courts?!?!

Oh silly me. Only American citizens who pay taxes have no standing.

I never say anything to you for a reason. But this time I can’t help it. These bastards caught in the battlefield of 9/11’s pain can kiss my ass. They go down. F-em!

Well I do generally enjoy Steyn better, but no there has frequently been Uighur news when Steyn has been subbing for Limbaugh. Steyn has made a big joke about it, calling it Uighur Wendesday which works if you know how Uigher is pronounced. So maybe Steyn will be in tommorrow for another Uighur Wednesday.

The Constitutional status of ‘enemy combatants’ was well settled by the USSC when Abraham Lincoln was President.

So too, the Geneva Conventions do not signify any protections for such terrorists.

There is NO basis in constitutional law - particularly in its precedent - to regard terrorists as anything other than creeps to be quarantined. None at all.

WWSD ... “What will Sotomayor do”?
