Former House speaker Newt Gingrich tells NRO that he is sure that endorsing Republican Dede Scozzafava in the upcoming special election in New Yorks 23rd congressional district was the right thing to do. I endorsed the Republican who has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association, opposes the Obama health plan, signed the no-tax-increase pledge, and supports a comprehensive energy plan like I do, says Gingrich. Third-party candidates like conservative Doug Hoffman, Scozzafavas challenger, often serve only to divide the GOP, says Gingrich. Just look at whats happening in New Jerseys gubernatorial race, he says, pointing to the campaign of independent candidate Chris Daggett, who has siphoned support from Republican candidate Chris Christie. Whats happening in New York and in New Jersey should be a sober warning to every purist in this country. If you seek to be a perfect minority, youll remain a minority, says Gingrich. Thats not how Reagan built his revolution or how we won back the House in 1994.
I believe we are seeking to be a perfect majority, so his quote doesnt really fit.
Whats happening in New York and in New Jersey should be a sober warning to every purist in this country.
This lesson should be learned by the GOP establishment. Run candidates that conservatives can vote for and win elections. Run Demlite candidates and lose. It’s not the conservatives fault that the GOP can’t pick winners.
I see you have no coherent response to his rationale. The fact is, he is right in principle but may be wrong in the instance. It is possible for a Hoffman to beat a Scozzy without splitting the party, especially when the party is as feckless as the NYGOP. The counter case in NJ is well taken, which simply proves that every case is an individual case and deserves to be taken on its merits.
The NRA has indeed endorsed Scozzafava. When it comes to the Second Amendment, I am a single issue voter and a NRA endorsement erases a multitude of sins. Not only that, the NRA gave her an A rating. There's lots of Republicans who don't get an A so surprising a NY RINO would. Be that as it may an A from the NRA gets my support as it should.

All in favor?
Aye.
We had him there just so we can keep some power away from the party of the Rat.
No, the GOP leadership had him there so that the conservatives couldn’t win a Senate seat.
Mr. Speaker, Reagan built his Revolution on becoming a MAJORITY. That means running like he did, and championing conservatism.
Eat sh*t Newt. These elites have no clue.
Hey Newt, F you. If you seek to become the democrat party you will be the democrat party.
He is sounding a little bit too much like the Democrats, isnt he?
With all this global warming, the heat is getting to him.
He's gone native. Too much Potomac water.
Might as well co-nominate Obama in 2012, that way we can be winners.
The principle should be that conservatives don't support liberals to be elected to Congress. I'm not sure what principle you and Newt are talking about.
hes yesterdays news
He drank it within weeks of the 1994 election.
GET LOST NEWT!! R I N O !!!
Well said. Newt wants to become a liberal instead of converting liberals. Newt is a surrender monkey.
Oh shut up Newt, You’re part of the reason we are where we are now!
Thats all it takes for you?
Crap. She will probably fall in line with the Democrats on that too.
