Florida officials expanded their search for a 7-year-old girl who vanished while walking home from school Monday afternoon.
Somer Thompson was released from Grove Park Elementary School in Grove Park, in northern Florida at 2:50 p.m. She was with her twin brother, her 10-year-old sister and friends when she reportedly ran ahead of them after getting into a fight. Her brother and sister said she was not at home when they arrived at 3:05 p.m.
Somer's mother's boyfriend searched up and down the block for her when she didn't come home; her mother called home at 4 p.m. to check on the kids and immediately called authorities.
Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said officers are investigating whether Somer's disappearance is connected to an event that happened in the area on Oct. 10, when three people unsuccessfully tried to lure a 5-year-old girl into a car.

There is a website where you can search for sex offenders by zip code. I was SHOCKED at how many there were in my zip.
Her profile does not bode well for a good outcome. Please pray for this child.
I LIVE NEAR THE AREA...
they also reported there were 80 sex offenders registered in a 5 mile area.
So sad, people standing on the corner with pictures held up for the traffic. last night I got a call with a voice message recording on my cell phone of the Amber alert.from the Sherriff’s Dept.
THAT is a great idea!
I had not signed up for it, but they are doing that now automatically now I guess in the greater metro area when a child goes missing.
I was shocked at how few were near me. ;)
Prayers up! Lord, please bring this baby home safe!!!
Good for you! Mine was in the dozens. I can’t tell you what I think law enforcement should do to them. ;-|
Prayers up.
Please.....
In a rural area that's a lot, in a dense urban area probably not.
I just checked it out, only 4 in my entire zip code.
People complain, the school doesn't care.
This is MA.
That’s called “reverse 9-1-1”. That is, in the event of an emergency the authorities can select an area and send a recorded message out to every phone number in the area. There’s nothing to sign up for.
It’s pretty handy. Imagine something like a toxic gas spill or something, where they need people to evacuate quickly... that system covers a lot of territory faster than they could ever do with door-knocking.
Well, then no wonder I have guns. ;-)
Your state should have a sex offender registry where you can search by zip code etc. It’s amazing how many are in some areas.
Indeed. Prayers that she is found soon and safe.
7 in mine.
The sentence containing “Somer’s mother’s boyfriend” gives me pause. He may be a great person but .....
Bad consequences tend to occur for children when their mother cohabits with a man not their father.
I live in a forest of NYC high rises. I assume there are a few dozen just in the apartments I can see from my window. :)
