Don’t know wether to love him or hate as I was a diehard C&W fan (Cowboy Music we called it) and music was rapidly changing away from C&W. But then there was Fats Domino and Blueberry Hill that got played a lot at the soda fountain...

He performs here locally in St. Louis once a month and I keep saying I want to go see him. I had better get off my butt and get a ticket. Neither of us is getting any younger. :)

I saw him about a year ago; I’m glad I was finally able to cross off seeing a Chuck Berry concert from my bucket list.

What’s funny is how he recorded Maybelline, basically a country number, backed with Wee Wee Hours, an R& B number while Elvis recorded That’s All Right Mama, an R&B number, backed with Blue Moon of Kentucky, the country number - these guys wanted to keep their bases covered.

Yeha - I saw him in ‘71 and he was really great and again in ‘79 and he kinda sucked. I guess ya gotta get lucky.

Compare Chuck to some bands today. U2 has 200 semis for a show and then has the nerve to lecture you on saving the environment. Chuck just shows up at the gig, asks for a decent amp set up and a local band to back him.
